These turning directions are for a regular stance skateboarder.
First for the carving turn, you want to learn how to balance on the board in the grass. Bend your knees and push your toes down to get use to the backside toe turn. And then bend your knees and push your heels down to get use to the frontside heel turns. Then get use to standing on the skateboard not moving on pavement and move your heels and toes. Then make sure you are leaning over your front shoulder with most of your body mass and push your toes down to do the backside toe turn. Always keep your head up, arms out , and knees bent for optimal efficiency in your carving turns. First learn C turns frontside and backside and then learn S turns where you connect the two C turns together making a S shaped turn.
For the Tic Tac turn. Get used to lifting the front end of the skateboard straight up off the front two wheels and straight back down. You can also learn this in the grass if you are not comfortable with learning on flat surfaces. Also, get use to putting your tail down on flat surfaces before learning tic tacs. Once you learn how to push your tail down to the ground, the next step is lifting the front end of the board and going left or right. Learn backside first by applying a little pressure to the tail and lift the front end up and swing it to your right. Going frontside which is looking over your left shoulder and going left is harder. Make sure you look over that left front shoulder and spot where you are going and you will learn how to do the frontside tic tac turn. Once you get comfortable going left and right with your tic tac turns, you can learn how to pump off one tic tac turn to the next. Bend your knees and use your hips and feet and push off each front side and back side tic tac turn, this will build momentum and make you go foward with out having to push. This is how you do the Tic Tac push.
