In Japan, they literally have heated water sprinklers built into the roads to stop the ice build-up.

This was last year. The whole west side of the state was covered in a 3/4 inch sheet of ice on Christmas Eve

A number of years ago in Quebec and I don't remember the days, but I remember on extreme winter weather facts it told about 50 DAYS STRAIGHT OF FREEZING RAIN!!! Also they had temperatures down to 20 DEGREES BELOW ZERO AS WELL!!! If you were out in the boondocks or in countryside you better have a chimmey, firewood handy to use, and a supply of food.
