Chinese President Xi Jinping reprimanded Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for leaking the details of a discussion between the leaders to the press. The accusations came as the pair crossed paths in a public space in Bali, Indonesia, where both leaders are attending the G20 summit. 'It's very rare that Xi Jinping would engage in this type of behaviour,' said former Canadian ambassador to China Guy Saint-Jacques of Xi confronting Trudeau. 'He is very agitated, his face is red, his arms are moving ... and he knows that cameras are rolling.'

Our national news doesn't always report the facts. Our PM didn't simply "leak the details to the media. The latest Asian news report that our Prime Minister actually fabricated/spin story about what the discussion were about from the 10-minute meeting. President Xi, due to the PM's father had "guanxi" with China, tried to put it kindly with our PM that this was "inappropriate" in diplomacy. When the interpreter at half-way interpreting it to English, our PM interrupted it rudely and talked about the Canadian way of "open and frank" tradition. It was so rare an opportunity to have the dialog with the Chinese president but our PM treated it like a joke.

Actually, it's not only accused that he leaked the conversation, but more importantly, accused he lied and unilaterally explained the content of the 10-minute talks. With only 10 minutes, how to talk about China's involvement in Canadian elections, Russia-Ukraine issues, North Korea issues and climate change, and without China's response? Unilateral explanation to promote the election, Canada PM just used China's heat and violate the basic principles of good faith in diplomacy. That's shameful for a PM of a country.

Keep trying CBC, but there is no way you can sugarcoat Trudy's mishaps this time

Somehow, this reminds me of Trump's angry tweet about Trudeau being "Very dishonest and weak".

After watching this, I understand why he was ambassador. He present information like it's always the other party's fault for not understanding our way of doing things. To those people, we always have to be the good guys so we can't take any blame for anything.
I would rather agree with president Xi, what is talk about in private should stay private unless both parties agree to make it public. This is a basic principle of respect that our Premier should know by now. Understanding and respecting other cultures is not a sign of weakness!

They sent this guy to Beijing years ago. 😅. I think he was one of the reasons that made things worse.

it's amazing how this former ambassador doesn't even address the core issue, which was the leak . And instead goes on a rant

Don’t agree with you😢JT should learn better diplomatic skills to create a win-win situation for both countries. We have to respect others culture and not acting so arrogant as we are better than others.😢😢😢and always looks like we are more superior and give lecture to others when they are different. This would achieve nothing at the end. The German president is smarter than ours.

This news picture is too rare
The reason for this was that Trudeau took the initiative to meet Xi. A few minutes' private talk between the leaders of the two countries was published the day after the G20 meeting, and all the content was Trudeau wanted to express.
During the meeting, Xi said that it was inappropriate to do so, and the newspaper content was not the real situation of your meeting with me. If both parties use a sincere attitude, they can have a good communication, and the opposite result will become unpredictable. It is meaningful and shows Xi's disappointment at the performance of Canadian leaders.
Personally, if you want to release information to the outside world, you can meet formally through diplomatic means, and diplomatic etiquette is still required. It is rather low level to pay more attention to oneself like this, and it should not be the highest leader of a country.

All Trudeau thinks about all day is how to score points with his masters.

Ask this former ambassador if it is a normal diplomatic protocol to leak information to the press?

I love it how Trudeau initiated his robotic pre-scripted speech and the Chinese president avoided eye contact and just dismissed him away. lol

on behalf of all Canadians, I would like to apologise for this pariah behaviour.
He has brought shame to all Canadians and especially amongst diplomatic circles.
We no longer find a place to hide our shame.

JT should have better diplomatic skill to deal with China to create a win-win situation. His dad was so much smarter. His approach is considered as arrogant in Chinese culture. He talked like he was superior and trying to teach the Chinese president democracy 😢😢😢😢At the end achieved nothing and making the relationship between two countries worse. 😢😢😢😢😢
