1982 through 1991

The Mint still had a lot of copper planchets leftover between those years and while Copper was used for Proof sets (namely 1982 through 1989) it wasnt unheard of these planchets having business strikes.

I would never suspect that to weigh 3.1..every now and then I'll weigh a penny dating post 1983 if it has " the look" but man it's almost worth weighing them all.

I have no clue how a 1989 got struck on an older planchet, 1983 I could see maybe some old planchets left over from the previous year, but 1989, 7 years later? I wonder how it happened.

I have three 1981 D mint mark that always 3.11 g and I also have a filly meant that also weighs 3.11 grams

In the Wheatie penny might not be the right name for them LOL just what I've always heard them call but its play 1958 if you find one that's 1959 you found something correct

I have a 1982 penny that’s 3.1g YOU said they changed that year. So are 1982 supposed to be 2.5??? And therefore, do I have a rare penny?
