Before being given its present name, the Persian Gulf was called many different names. The Assyrians called it the "Bitter Sea".[10] In 550 BC, the Achaemenid Empire established the first ancient empire in Persis (Pars, or modern Fars), in the southwestern region of the Iranian plateau.[11] Consequently, in the Greek sources, the body of water that bordered this province came to be known as the "Persian Gulf".[12] In the book of Nearchus known as Indikê (300 BC), the word "Persikon kolpos" is mentioned for multiple times meaning "Persian gulf".[13]
During the years 550 to 330 BC, coinciding with the sovereignty of the Achaemenid Persian Empire over the Middle East area, especially the whole part of the Persian Gulf and some parts of the Arabian Peninsula, the name of "Persian (Pars) Sea" is widely found in the compiled written texts.[1]
At the same period, there is the inscription and engraving of Darius the Great, which belongs to the fifth century BC:[1] King Darius says:[14]

The correct name is definitely Persian Gulf. It is not about the number of countries surrounding it. It's a historical name even used by Greek historians when most countries in the middle east, Turkey, and Caucasus were part of the Persian empire. These Arab countries were artificially created after WWI when the Ottoman empire collapsed. During the Arab-Israel wars in 1960, President Naser of Egypt proposed changing its name. However, it never got international approval. Well, of course Arab students in their books are taught the fake name, but you only hear it either from Arabs or those who want to piss Iranians off!

You have probably failed your elementary geography classes but after all . Let me tell you why its the persian gulf . First we need to know what is a gulf . A gulf is the rise of a see into land . So Persian gulf is made from oman sea or gulf or Indian see or what you call it . And at that times that oman sea what part of iran and it still is and when it hadn't rised the area of the todays persian gulf was a nomans land . Arab gulf, the first civiliztions on the gulf between Arabs and persians were Arab (Dilmun and Magan) and arabs are the largest ethnic group to inhabit the region today with the most nations (Iraq, Kuwait, Ahwaz, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates)
