PNF Stretching - Nervous System Trick

Показать описание
Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) is a complex-sounding technique that is actually pretty simple. When you contract strongly followed by relaxation, it has the effect of switching off your body’s tendency to fight and resist max-range movements. While passive stretching remains the go-to standard, many studies show PNF can sometimes match its efficacy. We find it particularly useful for the full splits.

Here's how to practice it:
1️⃣ Straddle a pile of couch pillows with blocks or books on either side
2️⃣ Back out of the stretch so you feel max 5/10 intensity
3️⃣ Contract your legs so hard they tremble and count 1-2-3-4-5
4️⃣ Relax and allow your body to sink deeply into the stretch
5️⃣ Repeat the contract/relax cycle twice more and then stretch passively
