Wonderful video and great suggestions! I love that you get right to the point without spoiling anything. I havent really read much since I was a child due to the struggle to find books that actually intrigue me now, but my interest is piqued by all of these! I look forward to watching more of your content. ♥️

Most of my Japanese horror intake has been through movies and video games. Probably the only stuff I’m familiar with in book form is, of course, Junji Ito. I’ve seen the movies of Confessions and Ring, but just haven’t gravitated towards the books yet.

Thanks segmenting the video, I hate when people don't do that lol. I'll try at least one of those, and check the other videos you have. Any recommendations for the horror/noir genre? Mostly on the noir side. Any culture or time period is cool, thanks to anyone who replies

Ring is a first book of a trilogy which takes it to a whole new level. I found ring was alright but I read the rest of it and found the series to be one of my favorites by the end. It does go on a more thriller tangent than horror.

I remember when i first read Uzumaki... It blew my mind with such unsettling and weird events. The storytelling and art are amazing! 🖤I would love to see you talk about the drifting classroom someday! It's not that refined in terms of art, but i love the story!

I loved this video. J horror is one of my favourites! I enjoyed reading confessions and the Ring. Can’t say I’m a big fan of Junji Ito, but I did like Gyo, Tomie, and Uzumaki. I think I’ll read the Graveyard Apartment soon. Thanks for the recommendation once again. There’s something about J horror that feels so different, unlike western horror. They use a lot of water, hair, and many cultural elements to build up the plot, characters and setting. Definitely very creepy. In case you’re planning to read more of J horror, I’d suggest you try Battle Royale or Another.

I am listening to Confessions right now and I'm really not enjoying it. It is one of the rare books I went into not knowing what it was about but I don't like to read about things happening to kids or kids doing dark and disturbing things. So, it's going to be a DNF for me.

I haven't read many Japanese or Asian horror books but I've seen every movie that was released here in America. I honestly believe Asian horror movies are the absolute best. But if I watched the movie I won't go back and read the book. It'll be ruined for me. But I'll have to check out some of the others you mentioned here.

The Japanese movie version of The Ring was so creepy. Very few horror movies give me the creeps, and this was one of them.

I'll see if I can find Uzumaki.

O/T: I'm house and dog-sitting for a friend this week. She has Amazon Prime on her tv so I've been binge-watching The Expanse. It's so good. I like how the writers have changed many things in the book and altered characters in the show (e.g. Ashford, Drummer). It's like an alternate version of The Expanse, one in which you know the main plot, but the details and subplots are different enough to catch you off guard and surprise you.

I've been trying to get my hands on Ibitsu for a while now, it sounds so interesting! I'm a huge fan of Japanese horror (I've read all but 2 of these recommendations haha).
