2022 Ford Maverick: Review — Cars.com

The latest member of Ford’s pickup truck family, the 2022 Maverick, debuts as affordable and fuel efficient like its compact car namesake from the 1970s, but this time around the new Maverick is a small hybrid unibody pickup. With a starting price just north of $20,000 including the destination fee, buyers will be able to get a vehicle with a pickup bed that Ford hopes will average 40 mpg in city driving. We recently drove the Maverick for the first time and have a lot to say about our experience.

This is the first vehicle in a long time to get me really excited. The amount of clever thinking that went into this little truck reminds me of Hondas of 25 years ago. Well done Ford!

You absolutely nailed with your review. This is indeed as significant as the Mustang, the Miata, the original Toyota Land Cruiser or the original Mini were when they came out. Unpretentious, practical, inexpensive and attractive vehicles that did what they were supposed to to just so well.

the hybrid option is so underrated. 40mpg is amazing, especially with these gas prices

This was quite frankly a solid and helpful review.

XLT, 2.0T, 4k towing, Off-road, cloth seats (non-heated), is literally all I want. (Bang and Olufsen sound system would be nice though :D)

I paused the video when you were talking about the steering. I am so glad to hear that the Maverick's steering is weighted, I don't like that light steering feel some vehicles have. My Saturn Vue had that electric steering but I enjoy feeling the turns with a heavier wheel while I drive. With that said I can't wait for my own Maverick to come in.

Phenomenal review - hearing about knee room(!) and the in/out height are great pieces many videos miss. It’s refreshing and insightful to see reviews that aren’t performed by young and fit folks, thank you!

THANK YOU! Being a large individual my one concern was how would I fit. You look like you are comfortable in it. This was the one question that went unanswered until today. Thank you.

Great review. I ordered one back in June. I can't for it to get built!

I love everything I see. The only thing that makes me hesitate is the hybrid doesn’t come AWD. I am hoping they come out with and AWD model in the following year.

since it is based on a passenger vehicle platform they could have called it the " Ranchero ", , nice review but anyone expecting a simple easy to work on small truck like a first gen Ranger will have to keep shopping.

Thank you for the excellent review. You answered my most burning question I have had about this new compact pickup: "Can I fit into it?"
You look to be built just the same as me. And you looked very comfy inside. I am 6' tall, but I think legroom is not an issue up front.
I also loved the fact you got 43mpg. Ford promised me 30mpg in my 2014 Fusion 2.0L Eco-Boost and I never have gotten past 20.5mpg. So it looks like Ford is being more honest this time.
I'm 70 years old, hardly the "youth market" but nonetheless I like all the features and DIY stuff they have added.
I am going to get one, after the mad rush has subsided and dealer markup is not an issue.

The FX4 model shown has the optional aggressive AT Falken Wildpeak option the normal FX4 is a black rim with Pirelli Scorpion

I pick mine up Friday. Got lucky! Right place when it arrived at dealer.

Thanks for mentioning knee room vs. central console. If they lost the hanging part, it would even be useful for tall people.

Placed my order for one just this week. I was able to get a test drive of the Lariat edition, and my wife and I loved it - hit all of our concerns, and was extremely comfortable to drive. I ordered the XLT with the FX4 (AWD) package, the XLT Luxury Package in Alto Blue . Can't wait to get it.
