sony has actuallly said something about this, sony clarified that the console does support 8k but they will only make that feature possible through software when 8k tvs get more common

Reminds me of when my parents bought a “Wi-Fi enabled” Sony DVD player for streaming apps and it turned out it’s only able to connect by Ethernet 💀

I won't even use 8k and most pc won't run games at 8k well but it's more the principal that it's on the box and why I want it supported.
