They put it into the 8k TVs so they can “justify” selling them at a ridiculously higher price. The 4K market is flooded and companies like TCL, Vizio, and Hisense are all bringing affordable competition to drive 4K prices down. The big companies see that and use 8K to create a new market to increase profit margins. 8K hasn’t brought consumers back to the high end market like they hoped, so they try to force consumers hands by pulling their top tech and processing from their 4K lines. That’s how we ended up with recycled and downgraded 2020 models from the big 3 companies.

Hey, i have sony tv too and the same issue with ps5... what i did was go to the tv settings -> watching tv -> external inputs -> HDMI signal format -> Enhanced format. That fixed the issue... thumbs up so he can see this

I saw this at best buy. It's like a window. Beautiful display, punchy but natural colors, and contrast/ depth that is just stunning.

Make a 4K version of that Tv w/ the only difference being the Display. I hope they don’t start handicapping 4K TVs to make 8K TVs look good.

I don't know, it seems like you presented far more compelling reasons not to get this TV.

Also, the main positives indicate that they should just put this into a premium 4K tv. I do think the reason why they putting into 8k TVs is because the OLEDs create a sort of price ceiling of LCD TVs.

“The Sony Z8H lacks the necessary codecs to play 8K videos over USB or from the internal streaming apps. The TV did accept and display 8K videos fed through its HDMI 4 port - but failed to fully resolve 8K resolution according to test patterns. There must be a bottleneck in Sony's video processing that's preventing 8K HDMI signal from being displayed at 8K resolution.”

About the PS5 won't use 4K HDR issue, I believe you can go to TV settings > watching TV > HDMI input format > HDMI 4 > Enhanced HDMI to enable 4K HDR in PS5. It is really stupid but I worked it out with my X900H.

I'll wait. This is exactly the same thing they said and did when they introduced 4k seven years ago. When 4k movies are not yet available. That 1080p material looks better on a 4k panel because of processing/upscaling. Now here we are again. Eventually we will have no choice but to buy 8k tvs as 4k tvs will disappear like 1080p ones. It's sad that they will leave out the best features on 4k sets for 8k tvs where there are alot more that can be done in 4k panels. I guess thats just how tech revolves.
Great review as always Caleb!

That shimmering effect is present in Sony's other TV's too. As far as what I've read and have been told this happens when the sharpness levels are too set to high, this is suppose to be something that is common in all TV's. I'm not sure but it certainly happens on my TV but it does not happen often.

There isn’t enough Content shot or mastered at 8K to justify it becoming mainstream even if it gets affordable. If they start broadcasting sporting events, news, & streaming a few movies in 8K, that’s fine, but 4K TVs shouldn’t be phased out the way 1080p TVs are being phased out. Right now, we are in a situation where a lot of content isn’t mastered 4K, & the studio don’t seem to eager to do it, but quality 1080p TVs are disappearing. 4K-8K would be worse than that if they tried to push it now. 8K TVs existing is fine, but 4K TVs should continue to be supported w/ the best technology. Example- they don’t make 1080p oleds anymore, so imagine if they stopped making 4K oled or micro led TVs, & only used those displays for 8K, when 90% of movies/tv are still 1080p if that, or 0% of games are in 8K.

Well, it's nearly two years ago the Z8H replaced an older Sony over the fireplace in the great room. Perhaps I've adjusted to the small shortcomings of this 75" panel. The sound was a problem along with the brightness of the room. The Denon 7.1 system is great except for dialogue. The speaker system here improved the soundtrack or center channel a bit. On its own the voice track is still a problem. Streaming and satellite reception is still all over the map. But Blu-rays, especially the 4K, are outstanding. The Denon delivers both 7.1 and 5.1.2 in theater quality. So, no standalone sound from the Z8H in either single sound source or center channel replacing a superior Klipsch center channel. As a center channel the Z8H falls short in a room with a 19-foot-high ceiling. So, the panel wins big for picture quality and brightness. The brightness had to be turned down just a bit for evening or shuttered room viewing. Blooming is the most noticeable shortcoming. Thins like the Apple logo really bloom brightly on a black screen. Rolling credits don't seem to have the problem. They cover a majority of the screen. To date, there is still this problem in the K series Sony's. A new Sony would possibly be a Master series Mini OLED. Burn-in will have to be overcome first. Past experience turns me off there. So, the Z8H is holding its own to date. Odd thing is this is not a Master Series Sony.

4K still isn't as widely available as 1080p but yet we're talking about getting 8K?
Let's not fool ourselves here.

Caleb! As a new Z8H owner myself, I'm really looking forward to your PS5 - Z8H video.

Thanks for this video Caleb. I was the one awaiting this before I ordered this or the 77” A9G. After viewing, I watched your A9G video from last year. I am finally over the hump and just ordered the A9G! The decider? Well, a host of things including the judder you detected. Above all, you didn’t use the word “gob smacked!” I’ll report back my impressions once I’m set up

Thought I was curious about what an 8k TV could offer. Obviously forgot to consider the $5000 price tag. Sure it'll come down in the future. That's when I'll finish watching the video.

Hello, just bought this ZH8 based on your and HDTV's recommendation. What an amazing machine, and Xbox and Playstation run amazingly. The contrast is amazing and there is almost no blooming (I managed to provoke it with dedicated screens but not other content). Thank you for the review! It is the best machine I ever bought for "only" 2600 EUR.
