If you look closley at the iphone when craig fails to unlock it, you can see that it says " Your password is required to enable Face ID " makes perfect sense, it worked as it was suppose to!

Its same with Touch ID every time you restart phone you must enter passcode first

So now the authorities won't need your fingerprints anymore, they will just point your iphone at you and et voila. :)

Similar situation when they announced the first iPhone, it didn’t work at all, they made the software only work as long as Steve Jobs selected certain apps in a certain order and they forced att to install a mini cellular tower behind the screen so it showed full bars despite the device crashing if they selected the phone call button.

That is because the iphone is started new and then needs the phone the code like the older iphones with the touch id.

You don't need to enter password before Face ID, it is just valid as second option when Face ID fails.

Yes if he was on his toes at that moment he simple could have said, "just like with Touch ID we keep the phone extra secure by requiring your code input. Once done at first boot up, using Face ID is seemless like this "

If you look closley at the @0:31 mark you can see ´´your password is required to enable face id´´ they probably havent unlockt the phone after the booted it up. and a password is always needed after the first boot up so is see no fail here.

Even if it was restarted

1. The iPhone would say something like "Your passcode is required after restarting your iPhone" like all other iPhones
2. How did he unlock it without entering the passcode on the 3rd try then

It actually failed once and then required I guess it still failed
