People are shocked at what a Glen Campbell fan my family was. Nobody expects a 60 year old black man like me to be crying while watching the documentary about Glen’s last years. He was a superstar. RIP big guy.

This song really got to me when I was in Vietnam, even more so when I got back home and the girl I loved had not waited for me, although I don't blame her. I obviously wasn't too traumatized by the whole thing because I ended up making a career of the military serving 14 years of my 21 year long career overseas, to include two tours of duty in the Middle East. It was always good to think that there was someone back home that cared about you. It made it less lonely and served as a motivation to ensure I got back home more or less intact. This was always a song that could pull at my heart strings, but it was made more poignant when I was overseas.

As a young inner city kid I was enthralled by the beautiful songs of Glenn Campbell. It just goes to show you how good music is universal and crosses all cultures.

My husband is from Galveston and is a Vietnam vet.  And yes, he thought of this song while serving.  Thank you for such a lovely tribute to Glen Campbell's song.

One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I am so glad I got to listen to it all those times on the radio back in the late 60's as a kid. While, I generally don't listen to too many Country and Western songs (not that I have anything against the genre) - "Galveston" sung by Glen Campbell is one of the greatest popular songs of all time - right up there with the classics by the Beatles, The Stones, Otis, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Hank Williams Sr. and Jr. and other superstars. "Galveston" is absolutely sensational in every aspect. Unbelievable number. Eternal.

This was my Scottish Dad, Alec's favourite song ever.
'Play Galveston' he would say and liked to hear it twice in a row. I can still hear him saying that. Love u Dad. I'm playing this twice for you. xx

These are the songs that take you back to a simpler, much more beautiful time, oh how I miss it and wish I could give it to my children, if only I could go back!

Yes indeed this is one of the all time best songs. It has meaning and depth. There is a inner power to the musical composition. It holds and is emotionally intense! Forgot how good he was! Thank you Mr Campbell 🤠

My dad used to play the piano and sing this song when I was young. I have always loved this song, and Glen Campbell as well. My dad is now gone and this stirs up so many feelings.

Man this song brings back memories. I'm Canadian and there was great music out of America at this time. This was when America was the greatest. God bless my faithful cousins to the south.

I'm British and had never heard of Galveston when I first heard the song on Mum's copy of Glen Campbell's Greatest Hits. To start with I just kept listening to Rhinestone Cowboy and then I realised the whole album was full of amazing tracks and I must've fallen in love with every one. I listened to it way more times than Mum ever did.
One time in later years Mum talked a few times about how she was going away on holiday to somewhere in the UK called Alfreston and I kept calling it Galveston until it became an in joke between us, and we'd both start bursting into song whenevershe mentioned it...'Alfreston, oh Alfreston!'
