That is new information, thank you so much. I gave up on papaya seeds years ago because they simply don’t germinate. I will definitely be trying this method.

Excellent info. Now I know why my papaya seeds take so long to germinate. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada🍁

Growing papaya from seed is very easy. The key to a healthy papaya that makes fruit within 12 months is to let the seed grow in the ground as soon as it germinates. Papaya has a deep tap root, and that deep tap root if allowed to grow deep into the soil, it will get and store all the water it needs in the trunk.

WOW, Awesome video! Just what I want to know. There has to be a faster way of getting the seeds out of the pulp. I don't have that dexterity in my fingers:( Thanks so much. Subscriber from NW Fl.

How long do you keep it in the plastic bag?

I have collected seeds from a Kahuku papaya that have not been placed in water yet. I will be traveling with them for another 8 days before I reach my destination. Should I leave them in this state and wait to get to my destination before the 24 hr water treatment and taking the 2 layers off, or do it now?

Works Great! Thanks! Placed bag on top of refrigerator, which provided perfect temperature for germination. However, after planting the germinated seeds in soil my plants get to about two inches high, true leaves do not develop, and the plants die off. It appears that the roots are attacked by a fungus. How can this die off be prevented? Thanks!

That 'stage two' - an option might be just 'nicking' the outer seed case with a sharp knife?
This is a technique used with many seeds that have a hard outer coat.
As long as the water can get into the 'germ', that's the main thing.
Should be easier if the seeds have been recently soaked.
If the seeds have dried out, rolling them between two sheets of coarse sandpaper will often make that outer covering more porous to water.

I successfully grew Papayas but most of them turned out to be males. In your experience is there a guaranteed way of determining female Papayas before planting? Please let me know. By the way great and valuable information.

Just rinse put them to dry 2 days and plant as the seeds are!! That easy. I've got them to grow as a tree but living in really dry and hot heat they die out. I was wondering if anyone in Zone 9 have been successful growing them?
