What if the reason for low employee engagement and performance is closer to home than you think? It’s easy to blame others or outside factors when engagement and motivation are low, but leaders often miss an important opportunity for reflection. In this TEDx talk, Jane helps leaders recognize how team success and engagement can start with them. Jane challenges leaders to reflect on how they set the tone for their team and shares strategies for building a more intentional leadership approach. She also calls on organizations to set leaders up for success and better support them in their roles.

If your team isn’t performing, committed or engaged, it might be time to look in the mirror. Because it could be that your team doesn’t suck. You do.If your team isn’t performing, committed or engaged, it might be time to look in the mirror. Because it could be that your team doesn’t suck. You do.

What a great message. It's so critically important as leaders to set aside purposeful development time for both yourself and your team. Amazing job Jane!

So insightful on how we can improve and prioritize leadership on both an individual and structural level. Everytime I listen, I take something new away. I’ve definitely experienced leaders in the legal field that could benefit from a greater understanding of a working relationship that values authenticity and long term commitment over daily output, and a system that gives leaders time to lead and the tools and resources to do so. So often, leadership is just an afterthought.

Congratulations Jane. This video is a great take on the topic, and will truly help so many as to how we can think about our own position and effects in a leadership role. I hope it helps many!

This video really gets to the heart of leadership, doesn’t it? It’s a great reminder that sometimes the biggest changes start with us looking in the mirror. Let's keep the conversation going what's one thing you've done recently to improve engagement in your team?

The reason why the younger generation get blamed is because companies are trying to get more experienced workers for less pay. They can't say that directly, so they'll just say that the younger generation aren't qualified or are lazy....then leave those positions for more experienced workers to grab.

So Damn True. I've worked in a couple places that this was evident from the start, and sadly will remain so as the 'leaders', have no interest in growing. changing, or fixing problems. To them status quo is their goal. Sad but true.

We usually get the employees we deserve, that’s funny and seems true 😅

Once I got to handpick my team rather than have my board weigh in, we stopped having performance issues.
