For those who don’t know what it’s like to be an ex-Mormon, this topic is incredibly vulnerable and difficult to talk about. Massive respect for speaking about it.

Yeah I am from a super small town too ~350 people. My family was not religious, but my across the street neighbor and best friend were. (Homeschooled and all) So I had to the opportunity to contemplate these things early and wonder why this and not that casually over time. I’m so grateful. My house was very “science-y” and we had no cable. Lol. In the 90s. I’m 41 now and I definitely understand both takes. And if I think on a large scale, having religion on all socioeconomic levels seems very important. People with more $ or more time can sort out direction in life, but living day to day can leave you more directionless and susceptible to different influences. I know science cannot explain everything and I’m sure we have senses that we aren’t even aware of yet or don’t know how to explain. I know some religions are more concrete and say you must do xyz, but across them all are a gentle message. I definitely believe in something higher than myself. Just the fact that there is something and not nothing is amazing. Luckily I already had my major existential crisis in college and ended up leaving. 😂 I still enjoy a shakeup in my outlook on the world. 😊

As someone who grew up Mormon and changed their beliefs, I had an identity crisis stepping away from the church.

Being Mormon you are often identified as Mormon or have a nickname… “Chay the Mormon”. You tie your identity, personality, and character with being Mormon. When you give that thing up, it’s like you lose self-worth because your entire identity changes/is lost

Bryan’s gone all the way from believing a religion that promises eternal life, to pioneering the science to achieve eternal life 😮

There’s nothing wrong with living on a farm and in a community which people’s core values and beliefs are aligned. Thats actually very cool. That creates a very strong community which people agrees with one another.

You can be different and still believe in what your parents taught you. Life character uniqueness originality. Turning over to the crowd and becoming a sheep shouldn’t be an option.
