I had no idea Brooklyn and Bailey were Mormons. But it makes so much sense

"Personal Choice" wasn't the case in my ward growing up. In 2004, a fellow young woman was sent home because her skirt was barely above the knee. And I was sent home for wearing flip flops.

The fact that religion shifts the goal posts to keep people in is both refreshing and unsettling. Like, good to be flexible but what changed in religion other than society? It’s almost like someone made up everything originally and someone now is making things up again!

Jordan and Mckay talk about this too. They think that part of it is to do with the "modern" influencers not wearing garments gives a more progressive "garments are optional" view to the outside so people are more likely to join but then they don't get the same leeway that the influencers do

They want to attract people into the cult. It's that simple.

Notice how we only ever focus on the female influencers who aren’t “modest” really good example as to how the control is almost always directed at women’s bodies.

Sorry for the glitchy video an hour ago! This should not be glitchy!! 😅

So basically, "the guidelines become optional when they become an inconvenience to the influencers..." got it

I wore them for 5 years while I was married, and after my divorce I only wore them on Sundays for church. I never liked wearing them, and finally just stopped. After my divorce, I wrote to the first presidency asking for my sealing to my husband to be dissolved, and they replied saying no, not until I'm getting married to another man. I had no intentions of getting married again, and didn't want to be tied to my ex, so I got myself excommunicated to get out of all of it.

I remember my wife in tears because she wanted to wear this beautiful dress that met the standards but showed about 2 inches of the undergarment on the sleeve because of the fit. I told her to take the undergarment off but instead she changed into a dress that she didn't like very much. I felt so badly for her.

I wouldn't be surprised if the church didn't "reprimend" them because they give them so much money....

I grew up in Idaho in an atheist family. The amount of bullying, disrespect, and mistreatment from adults, children and teachers was disgusting. I was barred from certain kids because their parents told them they couldn’t be friends with me. I never won school awards even though I was in the top of my classes. I had teachers berate me in front of the class when I would stick up for science in class. The abuse destroyed my self esteem. I was too young to understand why I was sent home early from sleepovers when they found out my family didn’t go to church, or why when I talked about my gay aunts people would become withdrawn. When I came out in middle school… well you can imagine 😅

There's also a huge difference between Utah/Idaho Mormons (where they're the majority) and Mormons anywhere else (where they're the minority).

Gotta remember that there are pretty much 2 different churches/mormons= those who have gone through the temple, and those who have not. this distinction is very important, as not all Mormons will wear garments, just those who have been "endowed" through the temple initiatory ceremony.

The phrase "in my ward" makes me feel ill. Its so fucking dystopian.

I’m glad for those who are growing up in it now that it’s less restrictive but at the same time I almost feel betrayed. Modesty and purity standards had such a negative impact on my psyche growing up and I’m still dealing with the repercussions years after leaving.

I'll never get over how the Mormon garments, which are supposedly the most modest underwear, HAVE A SEAM THAT CONTOURS THE MAN'S BULGE 💀

Funny how many organized religions adjust their rules to appeal to modern audiences.... Almost like the rules were always totally arbitrary to begin with 🤔🤔

As a healthcare worker, nearly all the longterm BV/Yeast longterm refills were for mormon women
