When we avoid the messy middle of growth, we actually prolong the end result that we’re wanting to achieve.

I’m avoiding people in general. I literally chose a cleaning job at night so I don’t have to see anyone and I freak out when I have to converse with my boss.
I don’t want to make mistakes.
I don’t want to look stupid.
I’m tired of judgement.
But I want to move forward and actually find friends and meet someone. Yet I’m trapped in this mentality of not wanting to mess up or make mistakes. 💔

One of my mentors always says that growth and learning happens when you come from humble curiosity. That phrase, "humble curiosity" has stuck with me.

Don’t learn to NEED to get the right answers. Learn, from a place of genuine curiosity.
If you make mistakes, you won’t be so hard on yourself, because you’re just being genuinely curious and open, seeing how things go. And failing and making mistakes comes with the package of learning. Stop avoiding the discomfort of failing. You will fall, and sometimes it will hurt, but you keep going, until you get it right. When you make mistakes, you’re not being dumb. It’s really great that you do make mistakes, it’s the bridge to mastering real skills and becoming more better at what you do. It’s not bad to make mistakes. So go for it. Learn and grow. Fall, get up and keep going. It may feel uncomfortable at times. You may feel embarrassed at times, that’s okay. You got this.

Messy middle, learning music on the bass guitar at the age of 70, and I'm avoiding it like the plague.

I dont know how I ended up here. But now I am in tears. I have been staying away from the middle my entire life and tonight I am finally seeing it. I really appreciate you for sharing this.

Im struggling with engineering school because of this fear lol, as we all know, math relies heavily in consisten correct answers and trial and error, so it's really taking a toll in my mental health.

I was feeling really embarrassed today after doing very badly that should’ve come naturally to me because of the profession I’m in. This video made me feel so much better and made me realise that I just need to get through the middle to reach the end. I’m just in the beginning of my journey and I’m going to do better each time by learning from my mistakes

Thank you for this! I started my YouTube channel and am focusing more on providing good content and helping people and that’s helped me focus rather than feel self conscious about it

I have seen a few others of your videos. A former navy seal, and now yoga teacher, Mark Divine, has a wonderful video in connection to your advice of not being ashamed of making faults. It is on you tube and is called FAILING FORWARD FAST. Niels Cenius

I’m going to decide to celebrate my mistakes not just my wins. When I make mistakes, it will help me see I’m human, and that’s amazing. I’m going to see better now, at what I’m doing, now that I’m making mistakes.
