The total silence from the jump of the cliff to para opening is music to ears and feast to eyes!

Even after the delay between ditching the skis and parachute opening one of the skis hits the shute; dangerous stunt!

After the great stunt, we have a great song named 'Nobody Does It Better".
After the song, we have a great film ahead.

Those lines pretty sum up 'The Spy Who Loved Me'.

Tom Cruise's new stunt for Mission Impossible 7 definitely took inspiration from this. Its always good to see practical effects and real stunts in modern movies.

Hands down, this is my *FAVOURITE* opening sequence of all the Bond films.  OMG...  An actual skiing BASE jump off of a cliff?  *This* is why CGI will never best practical special effects stunts!  Can you imagine computer animators coming up from scratch every nuance depicted in the freefall?

It's only half of the opening sequence, but the parachute stunt is still great, obviously!

Rick Sylvester made that jump in July 1976 off of Mount Asgard on Baffin Island in northern Canada.

This was the most expensive stunt ever made at that time, and still is! :) So cool!

Nice scene. Always one of my favorites. But you can see they must have had several takes because the track leading up to the cliffs edge has been skied before this shot. I doubt if there are many casual skiers doing this on a remote part of Baffin Island Canada.

I wonder if the skis and ski poles are still there in the snow someplace.
