Great video! I make an Irish Soda Bread that calls for 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk. The grocery stores only sell the quart size, so as you said, I was wasting quite a bit. Thanks so much!

Great tip!  I would freeze in sandwich size baggies, but then I would  put in freezer weight bags in the freezer.  I one do not use buttermilk that quickly so I like the double protection.  Then again, I would drink the buttermilk because I have liked it since I was a child.  Top it with cinnamon - yum.

Thanks for uploading this video. I had been using buttermilk powder for years but finally tried real buttermilk and the difference is night and day! It's good to know that I don't have to throw out the unused buttermilk and can freeze it for later.

I love making homemade ranch dressing, but it only calls for a small amount of buttermilk. $2.00 down the drain most times. Very helpful information. I have day old buttermilk in my fridge now I am going to freeze.

We’re repeatedly reminded NOT to freeze dairy products: milk, yogurt, cottage cheese and the like. You claim here that it’s in fact OK to freeze and reuse buttermilk. Well, I’m gonna try it. It burns my a** to waste the rest of the quart where I use only a bit at a time. Was happy to find your video. Thank you for posting. I have brined chicken tenders (bell n evans, strictly) soaking in Kate’s BM right now. Gonna coat em with self rising AP and bathe em in hot veg oil. Should b good!

I froze my buttermilk and when it thawed it separated and it’s more of a milk consistency and not the thick butter milk consistency. How do I get it back to the thick consistency?

Thank you so much for the idea I was going to do the ice tray but I wasn’t sure if I can do it for the buttermilk, BTW I use the ice tray for fresh lemons when they’re on sale and they’re in season I buy a lot squeeze them and but them in the ice try and when they freeze I put them in ziplock bags and use them as needed, they stay fresh.
