In this short teaser video, I show the effectiveness of the VC-Tune (Variable Capacitance Tune) preselector.

Most videos are visible to the Patreon team members long before they are released for public viewing. Some videos are never released for public viewing. Executive and VIP members have access to the menu optimizations PDFs I’ve written for the FT-891, FT-991A, FTdx5000MP, FTdx101D/MP, FTdx10, and FT-710 AESS. Future radios could be added. These documents are for Executive and VIP members who subscribe annually. They are also copyrighted. Is there really no button backlight in this radio?

I read that is just a pre-selector filter for the front end. So all you're doing here is killing the front end of the receiver by moving the passband of the filter. That reduces the noise and the signal (much the same as an attenuator) for no net gain in SINR. All a preselector can really do is filter for out of band signals causing front end overload or help with out of band interference, It can do nothing from in-band QRM/ORN as that has to get passed, along with the transmission we are trying to intercept. I've yet to see someone demonstrate the VC tune actually does anything useful in terms of SINR with test equipment. Am I wrong?

Never cared for VCT. Had it in my crystal radio set, and it made the sound distorted.
