The Pleiades 🌌, also known as the Seven Sister and M45. Located 444 light years away, this open star cluster containing middle aged stars located in the constellation of Taurus. You can see the cluster with your naked eye in the night sky.
The cluster is dominated by the hot blue and luminous stars. The stars are currently passing an unrelated dust clouds through their interstellar medium.
There are 9 bright stars in this cluster, they are named for the Seven Sisters of Greek mythology: Sterope, Merope, Electra, Maia, Taygeta, Celaeno, and Alcyone, along with their parents Atlas and Pleione. Swipe to see them labelled in this photo.
I headed to Rockfish Valley Overlook after thanksgiving dinner last night and captured about 1 hour of Pleiadian light to get this image.
Image acquisition and processing:
EXIF:
400 mm, ISO 400, 120 seconds, F/5.6
Bortle scale: 4
16 Lights, 41 darks, 41 bias, 12 flats
Processing was done in Pixinsight, LR, and PS.
Gear: Canon 90D and a Canon 100-400 IS ii lens. The setup is none astro-modified.
