STAR STORIES | The Pleiades

The Pleiades Constellation has numerous similar myths associated with it this video is a summary of some of those myths.

The Stars at Night is a documentary looking to explore the connection between astronomy, mythology, and original storytelling. We want to know what kinds of cultural impact the loss of a visible night sky might have on humanity in the future.

The Pleiades is depicted in Gobekli Tepe, which is ~12, 000 years old, as seven birds at the base of one of the two central heroes in Enclosure D. Plus, very probable renderings in cave art ~30, 000 years old. The Pleiades is the most important star group as that is where the most destructive meteor shower, the Taurid Stream, seems to emanate from.

"Subaru is the Japanese name for the Pleiades star cluster M45, or the 'Seven Sisters' (one of whom tradition says is invisible – hence only six stars in the Subaru logo), which in turn inspires the logo and alludes to the companies that merged to create FHI" (Wikipedia).

The Australian Aborigines also have a story of the Pleiades constellation as well. Again, it is about 7 sisters who were being pursued and they ended up hiding in the sky for so long that they turned into the stars. It is so mind boggling how all these different cultures all across the world have similarities in their stories 😮😮😮

We hindus also have a legend associated with these stars:

Kritikas have an interesting story. They were seven sisters married to seven brothers. The seven brothers were the Sapta Rishis which forms the Big Dipper constellation that can be seen in the Northern sky, near the Pole Star. The seven sages and their wives lived together, until one day the Sapta Rishis accused six of the sisters of infidelity—by saying they preferred the love of Agni—and betraying the vows of marriage. They were thrown out of the house. Only one of the seven sisters remained with the seven stars. This star is Alkor or Arundhati. The remaining six moved away from them towards the eastern horizon to form the Pleiades Constellation. These Kritika stars are considered to be ferocious goddesses who cause miscarriages in women or measles in newborns, unless they are worshipped as caretakers of Kartikeya, rather than as abandoned wives of the seven sages.

This is a cool video. One thought that came to me is that the stars being sisters chased by a hunter/predator and being raised into the sky as a rescue might be of such primordial ancestry that it shares a common origin in the stories of the people that populated the central Eurasian steppes millennia ago, whose descendants traveled eastwards and crossed into Alaska from the easternmost tip of Asia, and wandered westwards to eventually reach Europe.

Let's change the stars.  What I mean is, get the IAU to, OFFICIALLY, make a new constellation.
My idea for changing the stars includes Orion, Taurus and Pleiades (Subaru).  Figure it's time to put something up there that's relevant to us, don't you think?  Take Orion's belt and Betelgeuse becomes the head with a baseball hat.  The 3 stars of Orion's belt make up the 3 fat belt loops on a baseball uniform.  Below the belt are two legs bending at the knee.  Saiph is the back foot and Rigel is the front foot.  The feet aligning perfectly under the bent knees.  The spear pointing at "Subaru" is the bat being swung and "Pleiades" is the baseball flying away after being hit.  Bellatrix is the hand that let go of the bat and Aldebaran of Taurus is the tip.  Put it all together and you get, "THE ALL-STAR."  In my case, I see a left-handed batter and I imagine a "7" on the jersey. Which makes him, "Mickey." (As it should be ;-) But you can put any number you want, making, "THE ALL-STAR, " any player you want. It'd  be wrong of me to not, at least, try.  This is me, trying. Pass it on, please and thank you. Don't worry, where I come from, crazy is a compliment. ;-P

Incredible to think how two completely distinct (supposedly) unconnected cultures could see the stars as sisters being pursued by killers and lifted up to safety by a supreme being. Surely there's more to this. Surely there's more to us.

The only logical explanation for cultures from different places around the world to share very similar legends - and symbols - is a common origin for these legends and other similarities. My belief is that this tale (and many others which correspond) are relics of our previous Age of Civilization. By the way, when Electra (who was the mother of Dardanus, the founder of Troy) saw that Troy had been destroyed, she departed from the Pleiades and turned into a comet, ranging the skies in her grief.
