You could see his disappointment as he rolls his head after the passage. One of my favourite pianists nonetheless.

Bro him screwing up sounds better than me peaking

This recording brings out Ravel's often unremarked-upon penchant for the Second Viennese School.

Love how he looks at his hands like “what the hell, guys.” Happens to all of us, but that recovery was super impressive

i think the recovery outweighs the screw up far more and the screw up is surprisingly not even that bad sounding

I wish I could play as well as his screw up.

Shows the true importance of continuing the performance. Shit happens.

Bet 98% of the audience didn't even notice. Looks ridiculously hard to play.

How rhythmically difficult is this section 😱, omg!

7 against 6, 6 against 7, 7 against 5, 6 against 5, 7 against 5, 6 against 6 (short relief 😂) and finally 6 against 5. … In one bar!!!

He approached too fast. I'm glad I have a couple of seconds' proof that MAH is human. I love the man and pianist.

Expected him to screw up while I was listening to him building up the tension just before the climactic arpeggios.

He rushed through that passage.

Fortunately, he saved it gracefully.

His mind taught him a little lesson to be in the moment. His mind is mostly somewhere else when he plays. The man has been so superhuman all his life his mind had to remind him he still has blood running thru his veins

that was not a screwup, it was a cosmic event that had its own sound, beyond the control of the performer, yet, it was an intimate part of him that revealed itself in that instant. So magic ✨

The same thing happened to me the first time I played this piece. That is usually one of the most difficult passages in all of classical music. Then, watch him play Scarbo, he does it superbly, and that piece is 1000 times more difficult than Ondine. After all, Gaspard de la Nuit is one of the most technically complex works in the entire piano repertoire.

it's Ravel reminding him that this passage is supposed to be PLUS LENT and not as fast as possible
