Joseph Gayetty introduced the first commercially available toilet paper in the United States around 1857. Seth Wheeler obtained the earliest United States patents for toilet paper and roll based dispensers in 1880s. Toilet paper as we know now became more accessible and widespread only after middle of 20th century.
