However early humans in the wiping community used whatever was in reach. Leaves, sticks, moss, sand, grass, stones, sand, snow, plant husks, fruit skins, seashells, corncobs or hay.

As civilization advanced, the ancient Romans began using a sponge on a stick, known as tesoriums. These sponges would be dipped in a bucket of brine or vinegar, and reused communally. Yes, they shared the wiping sponge. Yes, they shared it.

Started using moistened and softer Baby-wipes everyone was sending us to wash up with - in care packages, instead!
