Hurricane Sandy was unusual in several ways:
Unusual Track: Sandy's westward turn toward the East Coast was highly unusual, with only one similar storm recorded in the past century.
Size and Low Pressure: Sandy had the lowest sea-level pressure ever recorded north of North Carolina in the United States, with a reading of 945.5 millibars at Atlantic City.
Hybrid Characteristics: Sandy exhibited both tropical and extratropical characteristics, making it a unique storm. It maintained a warm core of convection-created energy at its center while also having a large and asymmetric wind field.
Timing and Tides: Sandy made landfall at high tide, which exacerbated the storm surge and flooding. The full moon also contributed to a higher-than-normal "spring tide, " further amplifying the damage.
Interaction with Jet Stream: Sandy's interaction with the jet stream, particularly the "blocking high" that forced the hurricane to make a sharp turn to the left, was unusual and contributed to its destructive impact.
These factors combined to make Hurricane Sandy a rare and devastating storm.

Why do they have to be dramatic, its clearly not in the middle of the Ocean.
If anything a couple of hundred yards off the beach.

America. The only one of what is now over 50 countries in the British Commonwealth to commit High Treason. I can't imagine them fitting in to be honest. It was 'The Battery' that made me think. I do think New York is a great place though - for a visit.
