Doesn't Volvo have even faster engines on offer for the V90? Although maybe they're not available in the UK, who knows.

The problem with Fifth Gear and one of the key reason I dont watch that many videos is you guys treat every car like a Ferrari. If I am interested in an estate car, the last point I want to know is how it corners, dampers and any G meter, but on the boot capacity. So come on guys !!

If you would have chosen the V60 T5, you would have saved 13.000 euros, this means 3000 euros less than the skoda which you can spend on the Four-C suspension system, for sportiness as well as comfort options and Polestar Optimization to bring the 0-100 down to 6.6. Even if you would have chosen the T6 AWD (300hp AWD), 0-100 in 5, 6 sec which is 0, 1 sec faster than the skoda and you would have saved 11.000 euros compared to the same trim V90 T5. If you would have chosen the V60, the dimensions would have been way more similar.

Just because they're both estate cars, doesn't mean they're level competitors. They are, however, different class of cars. The Volvo attribute is very different from the Skoda in many ways. And it has options of higher power range. In any case, for a heavier, longer and lower powered car to loose by only half a sec, it's a no brainier which car is more desirable.

I'd still always take the Volvo V90. What a gorgeous, comfortable, calming car with no chip on its shoulder.

If you want a sporty Volvo, why pick the least porwerful gasoline engine for it? Guys you can do better

Always loved these fifth gear shootouts

This seems like an unfair comparison. 1) The T6 would be more properly matched for performance. And if you argue that the price difference would be even further apart and unfair.... That's because 2) The Audi A6 Avant is its more direct competitor

Ive got a V90 T6 R Design P* with the rear air and 4c, and its an incredible automobile. I gotta make a vid on it. It's not super fast but it just looks and feels amazing.

I wonder how many buyers of these cars will drive them on the track? I can't think of a more irrelevant test. A thorough road test on the road would be so much more relevant to the vast majority of prospective buyers of these cars

We bought a Skoda superb L&K. With the biggest engine 272hp. It's truly amazing. Love it, and when I drove the v90 I really didn't enjoy it.

Not really sure what the point of this shootout was. The top line Skoda vs the lowest V90 (there are T6 and T8 Powertrains available). AWD v FWD, both models are available with both configurations. If it was “hey you can get a Skoda that’s way way way cheaper” then spec the V90 appropriately and compare the over £20k+ cost difference but you will see the V90 come out faster

Lease a Volvo V90 to tow your 850R race car to and from the track.

I had a Volvo V70 and loved it. Now I've got a Superb and I love it more.

Real value of this car is not on the race track. There are some other values for station vagons rather then speed drive. Based on car main purpose you should choose comparable values and track speed is not always that value. Maybe you should compare off road capabilities of porshe 911 and ferrari monza...

I bought a 2016 Audi S3 a couple of years ago, and before I bought it I test drove a brand new Superb Sportline (in sedan form). I didn't intend to test drive it because firstly it was out of budget, and secondly I didnt think it would be sporty enough for my taste. But the guy at the dealership wanted an excuse to drive it so he practically begged me to take it out for a drive.

So I did! And I have to say, it was a really, really nice thing. It certainly isn't the most agile thing in the world - you DO feel the size of the car. But it's the smoothest, most comfortable and effortless driving experience ive ever had. The DSG gearbox is much smoother and more refined then the one in my S3, and the car is so smooth and quiet that when you put your foot down you dont really FEEL like you're moving that quick...until you look at the speedoeter and realise just how quick you are going.

The car is so roomy and the seats so comfortable that you feel ike you're sitting in gold class at the cinemas, and if you put it in sport mode the car actually turns impressively flat and has very little noticable bodyroll. In comfort mode it feels like a limosine. I should also mention that Infotainment system is probably the best ive ever used in any new car - great high res graphics, very easy to use, and one of the few cars with wireless Android Auto / Carplay.

I actually drove an A4 2.0T Quattro as well, and while the A4 looks great inside and out, the Superb was a better thing to actually drive in almost every way. The Superb impressed me so much that I ended up taking out a lease on a Skoda Octavia RS245, and I have to say it's been incredibly impressive as well. I still have my eye on a Superb Sportline once my Octavia lease expires. It might well be THE best value car in the world.

This would be alot better if you tested cars realistically and not treat them like race cars. They're estate cars who cares if one is faster than the other. Also one costs significantly less than the other.
