DCFS accused of using girl's inheritance to pay for unnecessary hospital stay

A 9-year-old girl was locked up in a psychiatric hospital for weeks after her care was complete. The overstay racked up tens of thousands of dollars in bills. CBS 2's Chris Tye reported that the state used money left by her dead father to pay themselves back for that care and that the case was raced in front of a judge late on Wednesday.

Our system is broken and corrupt and the most vulnerable in our society are paying the price. The government shouldn’t be dipping into any of her funds!!! She was an orphan and the state should pay the bills! Does the state not pay the bills for millions of children in their care that were taken away from bad parents? Do they ask those parents to pay? For goodness sakes, it’s all he could leave his young child in his death and they have to dip into it?!

Why do foster parents have access to the money when the money should be put in trust for the child to receive when they age out of foster care
