"I'm 62"
"You're 62 years old?"
"No, silly. I was BORN in '62, which makes me 62"

I'm not aging like fine wine. I'm more like a moldy cheese.

I remember the first time I was asked what model I was I was very confused because I was neither a car or a model

My wife and her sister were having a conversation about relative ages. Sister: "I'm 58 and you're 65.". Wife: "no, I'm 58 and you're 65!". It turned out that they were both correct.

We also do this in finnish, but we actually differentiate between age and birth year. So you could either say you're forty two, or that you're an eighty twoer. Adding that -er in english transforms it from an amount to a single numerical identity. Like how five dollars can be, for example, 5 one dollar bills, but a fiver is always a single five dollar bill. We do the same with our birth year!

Oh yes I was born in the grand year of 00

I like that- it also gives you a sense of when they grew up better than just knowing the number of years, at least to me.

I want this to be the way everywhere! My birth year never changes but my age changes every dang year and i can't keep up with that!

Their is a similar thing in Germany, we say we are (Baujahr) 1998 or whenever you are born, which Translates to time of Construction 😂

Thank you for your videos. I'm an icelandic person who moved countries from a relatively young age and it comforts me that i can still hear about silly little icelandic things

I live in Sweden and do the same. it's easier for my brain to think in what year i was born.

So usually in Germany we would actually say how old we are but in some context and when ask for the year of birth it isn't uncommon to say "Baujahr" or "Jahrgang" ("construction year or vintage) followed by the year

the fact that we actually do ask age because we want to know the offset is mind blowing to me, never thought of that

Finland does this too. It's easier than keeping track of your age.
