. 📣 For the LAST time ever, I’m opening the doors to Secrets to Sight Reading— the course that is a proven roadmap that helps piano players sight read with more expression and fewer wrong notes, every time.

🚨 But after 72 hours, this course is going away forever. No second chances. No public re-launches.

This video is amazing! I knew about the three types of minor scales & how to play them but I didn't know WHY they were like this. You have explained it beautifully

I'm learning clarinet, not piano, but I find all these videos so useful (not to mention interesting and entertaining). And so well produced. Thanks for all of them, but this is definitely one of the best.

I know my Minor scales, but I watched this for any musical tips you could provide, and you are true to your reputation. Very comprehensive and thorough. The explanation of the leading tone was helpful. Merci beaucoup.
It's too bad there is such a time difference with your lessons...
The only addition would be the melodic minor scale. it is the Major scale going up and the Natural minor going down, except there are some scales that guard the Melodic Minor for both ascending and descending. I've seen it called the Bach Scale or the Jazz Scale.

- LOVE your video effects! (as well as your excellent instruction - of course ;-) ) That last chord of the piece can also get thrown off by those picky picardy 3rds ...

tend to use melodic minor in the first octave and harmonic minor in the second octave

Thanks for a fascinating look at these scales. It is interesting how the melodic minor scale is different when going down. Where does this come from?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and for helping us to face the misterious world of minor scales. Greetings from Colombia.

In Bach, minor pieces often end in the major. This is called a Tierce de Picardy.

What about songs based on a Dorian scale. They sound minor, but the tonic isn't 3 half steps below the relative major?

btw/ fyi -- the text of the email that accompanies the minor scale PDF says: "Here is your free PDF of major scale fingerings!" (in case you'd want to change that ...)
