Hi Jack! I personally like both variants of English but because I'm from Mexico I have more influence from the USA. However, as you said, It's better be familiar with both British and American to improve our listening skills.

i couldn't agree more with you when you spoke about focusing on one type when it comes to practice, but remain open to the other ones.

I agree with you. I'm listening both British and American accent to improve my English skill. I focus on one person's YouTube video at a certain time, and then change someone else. so i can learn something new. It makes me excited and let me continue to learning English.

in my English classes, I let my students get used to hearing both British and American accents by sharing videos so that they are able to differentiate the both. That is absolutely vital for those who are to take either Toefl or IELTS exams. By this way, their listening comprehension skills will enhance dramatically.

Hi Jack, I used to speak American English but now I got married with a British guy so I’m interested in British accent, phrases and slangs . I watched a lot of videos of you, and my husband was so happy when I spoke British phrases to him .
Thanks for your contributions in my British English learning

Thanks a lot Jack, it would be fair to say that you have been not only the best british teacher I've got on youtube, but also you've been the one who has recommended the best strategies of learning. As a result of your advices i've already started using Anki, and it has been quite useful incredibly it has helped me a lot, thanks again!!

I have always been told to choose between British English or American English in class, but then I happen to watch movies or series in English regardless of which accent they have. I personally love British English but it is quite difficult to imitate the accent, though I`m trying hard to catch it .. I watch yor videos in To Fluency and I also watch Lucy and Vanessa `s channels . I `ve recently spoted you guys in a video in English with Vanessa talking about lockdown. It was very interesting to hear different accents in one video-Congrats! You `re helping lots of people to keep on studying English in lockdown and also to get rid of anxiety and stay positive !! Thank you so much !! Hope to watch another video of To Fluency soon!! Stay safe !!

Yeah I agree with you absolutely, be open to all accents at least to understand all of them especially (British and American), and shadowing one type of accent.

I’m brazilian, so I learnt the Ame accent at school, we are more influenced to speak like American. Then, 6 yrs ago I moved to London and nowadays I am really up to the Cockney accent. So, I particularly prefer the British one! 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿♥️🤍

I use mainly podcasts for learning English, because I have to do chores, drive, etc. 70-80% is BBC World Service. In my opinion narrators, presenters shoud have nice pleasant voices. I don't care about accents

Great video, Jack! I teach British English for Secondary here in my town. I told my students that I’m going to be teaching them the British English, so you guys might find some differences with the American English (which I’m sure their teacher taught them in elementary school). I also told them that there’s nothing better than the other, it’s just about personal preference. Because I personally comfortable and familiar with British English, it’s just feels weird for me to pronounce words in American English style. And I told them, you are free to choose which type of English you’re interested in (outside the school), but in this school, we’re going to use the British English as the standard.
