These printer blocks also usually consist of the CMYK colors (Cyan Magenta Yellow Black [K])thats why when you look up close to the printer blocks or even the package itself it looks dotted or screen-tone as they have to mix the colors to get more colors under a certain setting like multiply

For instance to get the red you would have to mix magenta and yellow

Him: “Keeps colors consistent.”

*Proceeds to show bags that have noticeable different color schemes*

Edit:
This is satire, but thanks for the clarification.

Alternate use: ensuring the printing is aligned correctly over the entire package, without having to examine the entire package. Many RGB printers, or worse CMYK because it has an extra dye, can misalign a single color when printing a complex image and it will look almost normal, but those printers blocks will make any misalignment obvious.

its actually so that you can use it as a ref sheet for drawing a bag of chips or something :)

I used to thought those colors were the different flavors of the snack/food I was eating

Fun fact: this thing is also printed on paper or polymer money, especially when offset printing, and it's cut at the time of cutting. Banknotes are printed in batches and each sheet has tens of repeating images of money, which is why banknotes are designed to be loopable on all the directions

I noticed them on candy I ate as a child, never really looked into it as an adult. I always thought it was all the colors they used to print the packaging

they were supposed to be served as a color palette just in case if the color was off or different by the Pantone systems

I thought it was the color that they used on the packaging 😂

I think that they are for the colors of the cover when I was younger

it’s also to know if the colours are in the right position, not sure about the packets but that’s how it works for boxes and stuff

I just thought it was a way for artists to know what shades they need if they want to make a realistic drawing 😅
