The BEST Gingerbread Cookies

Ingredients:
Cookie dough-
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 egg
2 tbsp molasses
1 tbsp water
1 1/2 tbsp orange zest (reserve orange for juice)
3 1/4 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ginger
Pinch of salt
Icing-
2 cups powdered sugar
2-3 tbsp fresh orange juice
2-3 tsp orange zest
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F
In a large bowl cream together butter and sugar. When the mixture is fluffy mix in one egg, molasses, water and orange zest.
In a separate bowl combine remaining ingredients for cookie dough and mix well. Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until fully combined.
Decide dough into quarters and roll out to 1/4” thick on a floured surface. Cut into desired shapes and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 min. Let cool completely before icing.
For the icing combine powdered sugar, orange zest and 2 tbsp of the juice. Slowly add additional juice of water until it reaches a spreadable consistency. Add additional powdered sugar if the mixture becomes too thin.
