What is Mysticism? - Fr. Richard Rohr

What is Mysticism? Richard Rohr discusses mysticism and the mystical experience. Mysticism is experiential knowledge of God, the true experience of transcendence or the divine. Understanding the mystery of the incarnation means you don’t see everything in terms of either/or, but in terms of both. Thinking in terms of both allows mystics to understand incarnation, Trinity, and things that otherwise defy logic. Mystical knowledge of God is experiential knowledge, where you know something, but may not be able to verbalize it.

My whole life I have been searching and asking priests why I had these wonderful, mind boggling, experiences of God and his holiness. Since I was a child to my 60’s. I couldn’t explain but I knew for sure this is Gods glory. Fr. Rohr has finally given me a name.

I love how Fr. Richard explains why we need a non-dual way of thinking. Too many times have I known people who only saw the Bible one way or the other

Thank you, Father. I had a mystical, experiential moment a few months back after mental and emotional breakdown and rock bottom. I won't say I understand mysticism, but I know I feel that connection. Breathing underwater helped massively, by the way. I love being Catholic (Adiult convert in England after RCIA) and now walk the Mystical tradition the best I can ODAAT.

Yes. I am a mystic and I’ve never participated in (or alongside) any type of religious sect. The connection with Source is experienced.

Fr Rohr is a wonderful human being and a true scholar. I can't speak to his theology, you could probably contact him yourself—we simply interviewed him for the video. But all I have read suggests that he is not simply a literal thinker, and he is not small-minded or petty.

As a gnostic Christian I understand the divine oneness

Mysticism as direct experience of God -- of nonduality, of the transcendent, divine, ineffable, numinous ... More or less summarizes what all mystics of all traditions express...

The two experiential gifts a person can be given are
1. Theophany of the Spirit of Truth which is also a revelation of the Divine Word.
2. The Beatific Vision which as Richard says is Jesus and the Father yet Jesus does not overwhelm the gifted person with His exalted status he speaks as to a friend.
The word i would use regarding the Spirit of Truth is *Other* and with the beatific vision not non-dual nut *One*
Before someone sees the Beatific Vision he must come before the Divine Word, judgement is *Revelation* because Speaking in Jesus Christ the Divine Word said *No-one can come to the Father but by me* so Jesus being One (Non-dual) with the Father is not available until judgment is over.

Yes... because: faith is the assurance of things hoped for.... faith is the conviction of things that are not seen... only Jesus can give us the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things that are not seen... unity with Jesus is the thing that we have hoped for... we have dared to believe that Jesus is within us... Jesus gives us assurance of his realness by a direct experience of his presence within us... it is thus that scripture is validated personally and comes alive for us.

Reincarnation? Jesus was reborn.... Brought back from the dead.... Yes, good explainer about what mysticism can feel like apparently. Makes our human words seem trivial. Pitiful.

This woman and mother of four was the greatest Christian mystic of all time. Fr. Richard Rohr borrows from her ideas. Enjoy!

This is why only apostles or prophets should be teaching these things cause you monks and mystic don't understand the Word and why you come to the conclusion of non-duality which is a warp concept of understanding. Most of you if asked "did Jesus of Nazareth save you?" Would probably say I'm being saved in process, that's because you do not know him. Anyone can say "Jesus is a Lord" too those who say Jesus is Lord! (meaning the pinnacle of Lords) are truly blessed and are a sibling in Christ. Sorry the reality is the monks and mystics are in the same boat as buddhas, hindu priest and muslims mystics they can only experience what God show them and only to the ones that God reveals himself to are the ones that get the full picture. You should confess your sins and do not tread these water again if giving permission by God, you clearly have been shown that God has not granted you to discuss these types of topics. With love and kindness I Hope this helps.
