Did You Know That Polymerization Didn't Detail Its Effect?

The very first version of Polymerization that we got in 2002's Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon had the card text "Fuses 2 or more Fusion-Material Monsters to form a new Fusion Monster."

Now the Yu Gi Oh ruling book is printed on the cards itself.

I still use the og poly because of the flavor text and it saying magic card. Its been loyal to me forever and I love it.

It's pretty neat that Konami actually did make a Fusion spell that destroys materials years later with Rapid Trigger.

The reprint says "Fusion Deck". Man, Yu-Gi-Oh has been through a lot.

Destroys? It's a good thing that cards like Unchained and yubel weren't out at the time.

Polymerization was very difficult to come by as a 12 year old player in the early days.

Nobody playing yugioh in school could legitimately fusion summon.
We used to by just sending the materials from the field to the graveyard

Polymerization was even weirder in the very first OCG rules in that the materials had to be on the field. Being able to use cards in the hand was an upgrade included in the first revision of the rules. They basically realized how useless the mechanic was since almost every fusion material could be blown away by a single summon of Dark Magician or Gaia the Fierce Knight or Blue-Eyes White Dragon since there was also no tribute summoning at the time. It was basically episode one of Duel Monsters for the first couple of months and then they went “Okay, we need to balance things out a bit.”

The old wording meant you could trigger destruction effects, and if you didn't have the space the poly wouldn't go through, it truly was a wild west in the old days.

Mr. Space Spider, please start teaching the class about these ancient history and convoluted rulings.
We are in dire need of a real Duel Academy.

I honestly see nothing wrong with that description. As long as fusion is a mechanic in the game and the card makes it clear it initiates the mechanic then the intricacies of the mechanic being in the rule book is fine. As this allows for fusion of cards in other ways such as monster effects.

Wait, was the Fusion material destroyed back in past? I only remember that it was sent to the GY. That makes a huge difference.

I really don't know why this wasn't a common.

They wanted fusions to be a regular game mechanic, but nobody in my school could do them 😂

that highlighting of polymerization was very satisfying

I have a copy with that original text haha always loved it. No description of what you actually need to do. Just "fuses 2 monsters, you figure it out." XD

Polymerization was my first card. I remember getting my first LoB pack and pulling it.

I kinda miss the old, wonky text of cards. lol

Imagine the nightmares we would have if Poly still destroyed the fusion materials as a game mechanic.

Oh WOW
That's beyond the text in non-Effect Ritual Monsters!

When me and my friends were younger, we had a few copies of the first polymerization. We thought you could straight up pull an anime move, and create brand new, never before seen Fusions out of any random monsters you combined.
My brother used to always fuse random monsters like Prime Material Dragon with Gate Guardian.
I used to always make fusions with insane protection and draw effects.
