John, your content is puts me into an almost meditative state in a very unique way. It is a wonderful feeling to forget the trials of everyday life and to just ponder the entirety of this amazing universe in which we

Hi John, just wanted to say one quick thing... PLEASE NEVER STOP MAKING VIDEOS. I absolutely love when I see a new JMG video. This channel is an inspiration!

The year is 2032. JMG videos have grown to 30 minutes: 20m of mind blowing space content and 10m of at the end.

Working in order fulfillment I listen to 2 hours of these videos a day with my phone face down. Thank you for making content that can be enjoyed without looking at the screen!

Sometimes I'll put the JMG "whole channel" playlist on shuffle. So interesting.

11:00 if you speed yourself to slow the death of your star you slow the speed of light as well; you got it backwards in the final edit. Good video!

The thought of detecting an alien civilization moving their planet... amazing. So thought provoking. And especially by using a giant sail, such a fantastical idea, brings my mind to a sort of warm snuggly place.

Also good thinking, we definitely should not spawn a vengeful super mega ultra chicken.

The idea of humans unable to perform solar engineering by the time the Sun could reach red giant phase is a baffling outlook. Being able to do it in a few thousand to a few hundred thousand should be extremely possible barring some aspect of physics we don't understand. For that same reason, I can't see any reason why we won't be able colonize stars. Having said that... We're probably best off building gigantic cycler ships that visit nearby brown dwarfs to farm them for interstellar fleets of cycler/colonization ships. I seriously doubt humans will have much trouble living in space by the year 3000, so the human "stellar empire" could be an established thing by the year 4000 or 5000...all without the need for FTL, by the way.

While I will say, yes, we'll be able to do something about the Sun. On the other hand, technology is gonna be so crazy in the next myriad of years that it might not matter much. One of those sillier questions to ask when the scale of technology is already insane, to say nothing of what is still to come. I personally support the idea that the Solar System will straight up be converted into a kind of "space ship" long, LONG before it's scheduled for red giant-ification.

I hope if humanity can last billions or trillions of years and colonize the galaxy and maybe beyond that we never stop telling stories and singing songs about our home planet. We see how easily things can be lost to history, I just hope our mother planet holds our hearts enough to remember over eons. We really do live in an amazing universe, but nothing we've ever seen is as amazing as Earth
