You NEED a touch-screen ON your PC (apparently) - Minisforum AtomMan X7 Ti

We love mini PCs here on SC, but this one is a little wild. A touch screen, a webcam, IO that just blasts out the sides, has Minisforum gone too far? Jake is here to see if their new AtomMan X7 Ti actually makes sense when you get it all set up or if these features seem a little superfluous.

I get this is for a meeting room conference machine, but a screen (or touchscreen) can be really helpful in a small home server, since you won’t need to wire up a monitor or a portable USB-C display

Jake worrying about not being able to make it stiff again because it can’t be screwed was an opportunity that the editor missed. 😂

if the touchscreen was displaying windows and works as a second screen, it would be great for streaming

The clock "watch" face seems all right for this Mini PC

this seems like it would be great for your older family member who sort of gets tech. acceptable system for someone who doesn't really game, and understands enough about computers for you to walk them through most problems. The screen seems great for that.

When I know there are screws under a rubber foot like those I just stab the screwdriver through the feet XD

I would love for this thing to have an atom-N305(the 8 core) and then use this as a wall mouunted smart home thermostat hub security camera thing.

(edit, for clarification, i dont plan on using the camera on this device, just a central hub for NVR, and simple home monitoring maybe integrate something like grafana)

Run something like ispy or frigate and then when it detects a person or car coming up the driveway, or a deer, bear, or mountain lion in the back yard it switches the screen to a live view of the camera. When the event is done, switch back to house stats like internal/external temp, humidity and air quality, with quick ways to swipe through screens that have forecasts, storage stats, maybe a way to hook into whole home audio.
Now, probably smarter to just have something rack mounted and use a tablet to interface with it, but i like the idea of having descrete devices that do their thing, and then sync back to a file server for on-site redundancy.

If the screen worked for other OSes and was more customisable I could totally see this used as a proxmox host, the dual nic also allows it to be used as a beefy router.
I’d imagine this as a little homelab server, with the screen used as monitoring.

Although the noise might cause an issue for some, we can't ignore the good bits like the decent webcam. However, the price does seem a bit steep.

Shame we didn't see the oculink performance, but it is still a decent product

@7:50 reminded me when I went to Best Buy about 5 years ago (2019) and a salesman told me that almost all motherboards now come with multi-gig ethernet. I was skeptical of his knowledge after that comment.

Well I'm impressed by the WebCam it's certainly an interesting idea I was kind of hoping it was just a display I could see it being useful for applications where you might want to have like a control panel or something open but since it's not a secondary monitor there goes that idea.

So is this a desktop computer with a screen and camera, or is it a laptop with no mousepad and keyboard?
