Motorists and commentators are up in arms over the EU imposing mandatory speed limiters in our cars, but is everything as it seems, or is there more to it?

Basically, at the end of the day this is not just for safety but another addition to the tracking of people, as with cameras continue to be put up. Nanny state needs to watch over us.

when you don't have control of the vehicle your supposed to be in control of! Dangerous!

That's going to put the police out of a job, and the councils are going to lose a lot of money in fines.

My Volvo is fitted with a speed limit display which is often wrong. Electronic systems are unreliable. Speed limiters are another good reason not to buy a new car from an already struggling motor industry with stockpiles of unsold electric cars.

We are not in the EU. Buy cars from outside the EU

So no revenue from speeding fines then? That'll mean higher parking fines, cameras on ALL box junctions of which many are already set to trap motorists, higher road taxes you name it because as we know it's nothing to do with road safety it's all about getting money from the motorist.

I have been putting up with this for years. Every time my Morris Minor gets over 70 it activates an audible warning in the valvetrain.

What about all those signs that are worn Out, defaced or covered in foliage?

This has nothing todo with safety but the ability to control you and your car so they can decide if you should be driving its the first step to locking you out of your car so you can not drive it

I think it will be more dangerous as the fella says as there are times you need to get out of a dangerous situation.

If they end up in the uk with the limiter then its intended, Car manufactures can very easily not install it for uk cars as they do with options like cruise control, heated seats, folding mirrors etc. Its not a hassle to them at all.

We are not in the EU . along with we are not in the WEF, BUT some of our councils are signing up to their camera controlled car restricting in our cities, the unelected WEF have no jurisdiction in our towns and cities, and this abuse by councils has to stop

I once borrowed a vehicle that unbeknown to me had a speed limiter stalk set up in the car. I inadvertently knocked this device which immediately slowed the vehicle down to a crawl thus nearly causing a rear end shunt! Time will tell whether this technology will be a benefit or possibly a death trap. A further difficulty will be that AI data will override the drivers mitigating evidence in times of an accident. With the camera technology now being installed everywhere to watch our every move, any fun that we had in the joy's of having our own transport are being eroded away with penalties and fines. Perhaps that is the intention....

Knock on effect could be GB vehicles may not be legal on foreign roads. Worth checking before you travel.

I, m not in the EU and thus will simply remove it

A couple of things come to mind. First, it just sounds like the state wants to control our every movement and second, it won’t matter one iota to most of us because we can’t afford a new car anyway. 👍

This is an area of concern, on my daily commute along a 70MPH dual carriage way I pass a junction that has a 40MPH sign on the slip road and occasionally my car will flash up the 40MPH warning because it has seen this even though I'm continuing along the 70MPH road. The concern is with such a limiter switched on what would the car do would it suddenly try and reduce the speed by 30MPH even though it has just read a badly place sign, thankfully at the moment I can just ignore it.

This technology just does not work - I've had several cars that read speed limit signs - none of them are anywhere near accurate. Typically they misread signs e, g, on slip roads or on the back of lorries. The result is, you can be travelleing legally at 70mph and the car suddebly slams the brakes on because it thinks the limit is lower - sometimes as low as 20mph! At the moment, the auto limiter can be turned off on most cars, but this is going to be a right pain in the a***e if it keeps beeping at

One more reason to not buy a new car. Why would any government allow this, let alone, promote it. Wait until there are hacks that disable these limiters.
