This reminds me of when my 14-year-old brother decided to read the lotr trilogy in one weekend. He literally did NOTHING else, except sleep a bit and a few meals. He did it! He started as soon as he got home from school on Friday and finished on Sunday afternoon.

It also reminds me of when I (very stupidly) read lotr for the fourth time in my final term at University, just before my finals! In the end I did OK, but I wouldn't recommend doing this!

That quote from Gandalf encourages me every time I feel distressed! Every time I want to quit a difficult task, the quote comes to me.

laughing bc fellowship took me six months to read and you finished it in less than 24 hours 😂 also love your comparison between sam & sam. i never caught that but it makes total sense!

Actually George R.R. Martin is a huge fan of Tokins books. So some Charakters are based of the Charakters from Tolkin. For example Samwell Tarly on Samwise or Pip on Pippin, Jon on Frodo

You’ve definitely started your journey into high fantasy with the best! 😄

I got LotR from the library as a one volume book and dragged my feet starting it because I was intimidated by having to read 1, 000 pages on a deadline, but knowing someone can read that much of it in a day helped. Currently 500 pages in!

You've definitely inspired me to reread this entire trilogy! But it may not happen anytime soon... 😬

Just some advice from someone who’s recently reading the trilogy💜 start with the hobbit, it’s an easier read and will leave you wanting to read more! My love for the original team has carried me through the harder pages to come in the other books 📚 just my two cents✨

The first book of the series is 'The Hobbit' actually. If you look at the first chapter of The Hobbit you will see that it is called 'An Unexpected Party' and the last chapter of The Hobbit is called 'A Long-Expected Party' which is also the name of the first chapter in 'Fellowship Of The Ring' or the first book of the series.

I am so happy you're reading these books and enjoying them. :D When I read Game of Thrones a couple of weeks ago (actually I am up to book 5 of that series right now...) I remember ranting about all the things Martin does wrong and Tolkien did right with his series. :D Maybe you should watch the epic rap battle of the two, very entertaining. ;) But maybe it's even better after finishing more of Tolkien's books.

"All that is gold does not glitter" is not from this book, but Tolkien very cleverly expanded on an existing saying and made up a history for it.

I'M SO EXCITED TO WATCH THIS AAAH
hobbits life is the best life, honestly. anytime JRR Tolkien describes it I get so incredibly happy 🌿right?! his writing style is so immersive, and beautiful! I didn't find the books intimidating at all, even though I was very scared to start the series :p
YES aaaah Sam must be protected at all costs, love him so so so much 😭 and I'm 10000% convinced Sam Tarly was inspired by him!! makes total sense, they're two of my favourite characters haha :))
I'm soooo happy you're loving the books! unfortunately I won't be able to watch your first liveshow (I'll watch it later, of course!) but I'll definitely be there for the next two!! 💛

I'm so happy I discovered your channel. I am also a big fan of reading and Gilmore girls besides the fact that we have the same tastes in term of lectures and food <3

Would be interesting to hear your reaction to the movies after having read the books. The movies are also highly critically acclaimed.

I read the hobbit a few years ago and I've seen all of the movies and I've been wanting to read the series for a few months now, but I'm so excited to read the whole series now

Is definitely possible. I have regularly re-read Lord of the Rings every few years. Usually takes me around 9 and a bit hours. But then I have always read extremely fast. Somewhere between 170 and 180 pages an hour. Somehow I just lose myself in the story and next thing I know. the book is finished. To this day I have to be careful. If I go to bed at 10 pm and start a series, I will finish book two by 2 am and have to make myself turn the light off and sleep (instead of reading book three) because of course work and commitments. Has cost me a fortune over the years. Have over 4k books in my Kindle library alone and still growing.

You spoke a bit about themes of Fate in LotR and you're right. Fate and Doom are words that come up often, especially in the Silmarillion. Long story, short: Before the world was made, all of history was sung by the gods as part of a primordial symphony and a clash between order and corruption. The material world is simply repeating that history. Some Elves (Elrond and Galadriel in particular), powerful spirits like Sauron, Wizards, and some Men have the uncanny ability to get hints about the future that, technically, is repeating itself. Like most prophesies, they're vague and have a bittersweet way of coming true.
