Kind of made worse how people don't really see the need to conserve water despite these warnings.

I laugh every time I hear Cali talk about drought, only because the technology exist to such a thing as drought irrelevant.  I was listening to a news podcast with an official from Cali and she claimed that Cali does not have the money to install the tech they need and update the infrastructure in order to support the transportation of the water to the places where it was needed.

It blew my mind when I heard her say this, I mean we are talking about life or death and your talking about cost, how backwards is that?

If this is how Americans are going to respond to the changing climate and the extremes it will bring then we truly are doomed as an empire.

Right now in Iraq we are launching million dollar missiles at million dollar American tanks from million dollar airplanes burning thousands of dollars in Jet fuel, and you can honestly sit there and say there is no money to combat this impending threat?

America is such a reactionary country, instead of meeting this threat head on we are going to wait till it blindsides us and then we are going to react, lord I hope we can pull through these next few decades.

The water's not gone forever, give it some time. The amount of water on the earth is constant, it's simply gone elsewhere.

Implementing large fresh water extraction sites (extract from salt water) will be cruciel in the near future; That along with the growth and innovation in green technologies. Ultimately this is why the government should make infrastructure its number one priority. Not to mention the unbelievable amount of jobs making infrastructure number1 would create.

the water problem is already bad. imagine another 7 years! why can't we build desalination plants? aren't they common on middle east coastal desert regions?

Would pumping water from the ocean to deserts on top of giant containers to evaporate the salt water into ok their containers work? It can work through sunlight for evaporation and as for pumping it it can be done with windmills to prevent them from spinning too fast.

The most efficient thing to do is to transform abandoned factories into hydroponic indoor farms using specific color LED light panels as the means for growing fruits & vegetables. With very little energy input with solar and wind generation. You can get 4-5 levels of plants to grow on shelving. There would be much less water and chemical fertilizers used. And you could get 4 growing seasons indoors. A much larger number of workers would be needed year round to do the growing and harvesting. You may have to do hand pollination in that method of growing. But you would ensure maximum harvest.

We're 14 years into this drought already. Lake Mead is a glorified mud puddle now. It's really sad.

In an ideal world there'd be a massive series of pipelines could direct water from areas of heavy rainfall, flood prone areas even. To the dryer ones. But the sheer size of the US make it unviable. Can't imagine that earthquakes would help either.

Amos 4 (NKJV)
7  "I also withheld rain from you, When there were still three months to the harvest. I made it rain on one city, I withheld rain from another city. One part was rained upon, And where it did not rain the part withered.
8  So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water, But they were not satisfied; Yet you have not returned to Me, " Says the LORD.
