In this video, I have discussed about my favourite test match cameo in cricket which was played by VVS Laxman against South Africa. It was a short inns but VVS Laxman showed his class and elegance in this knock.

Laxman is a unique cricketer. He excelled when most failed. Tough pitch, overseas conditions, dangerous bowling attack, last innings of a test match.. stack up the odds against him and he seems to deliver his best then. This tenacity saved the Indian team many times and helped win as well. His fourth innings average between 2007 to 2011 is about 75+

Laxman and Yuvraj were such great players. In the 80s and early 90s both of them would make the test and ODI side. But during their time, thanks to the fully loaded batting side of the Indian team, both of them kept each other out of one format. Laxman played the Test and Yuvraj played the ODI through most of their careers. Both of them not letting the other enter into their format at no.5 position.

Me and my friends nicknamed him "Very Very Special" Laxman after his 281 vs Australia. We watched the entire match live on TV, which was a rarity (for us) in those days as we usually listened to matches on radio. We also watched his escape act against the same team when India were 9 wickets down and he was batting with a back spasm and a tailender with 20 odd runs still to be scored.

Remember this game and innings. It really was a masterpiece and took a hell of a catch to dismiss him. Laxman was his most dangerous when the chips were down and when he was closest to being dropped. And at his best he was the best batsman in the middle.

in my view a man for crisis - VVS Laxman. Remember the 65 in chennai 2001 against the aussies or him guiding india to a victory again in SA and also at Mohali against Australia. His away from home average against all leading test playing nations is better than the rest of the Fab 5.
