In biblical Hebrew, hope is about waiting with expectation.

The Hebrew word "qavah" comes from the word that means to pull a rope tight. When we qavah, we’re waiting with tense expectation.

It's noteworthy that in Spanish "hope" "wait" and "expect" are all the same word.

It's just hard to understand how a people that believe in a God that rose from the dead can also believe that the world is ending, like the world is bound for fire and destruction and there's nothing that can be done about Is that not Is that not hopelessness?
