The Sony a6000 camera line-up can seem a bit confusing at a first glance. In this video, you will learn the differences between the Sony A6000, A6100, A6300, A6400, A6500 and finally the A6600 and decide which one might be a good choice for you.
Read on to learn about the Sony A6000 series and hear our buying guide for 2022.
Released in 2014 and replaced the older a5000 series. The Sony a6000 shoots 24.3 megapixels photos in JPG or RAW format. It also records video in 1080p resolution with continuous autofocus and face detection although its AF system is a bit slower than in the newer models. Since its release, Sony has also improved the colour rendition in JPGs so the latest models will give you better colours straight out of the camera.
Choose the a6100 if you have a bit more money to spend and shoot mostly stills, without the need for advanced video features.
Two years after the a6000, Sony released the more advanced a6300. Compared to the previous model, it had a much better LCD screen and viewfinder, the ability to film in 4K, greatly improved autofocus system and microphone input amongst the main features.
Purchase a Sony A6300 if you are a more advanced user and need more control over your camera. Choose it also if you create both photos and videos and need the flat picture profiles for more flexibility while colour grading.
The A6400 has the best cost for features ratio. It has most of the advanced features available in the series, amazing autofocus, 4K video with S-log 2 and 3 picture profiles and so on. If you didn’t need the IBIS, I would choose this one.
If you need the in-body image stabilisation and can’t afford the latest a6600, then go for the a6500.
If you want it all and don’t mind the bigger size and missing flash, then go for the a6600.
