Balkans logic : We have a common enemy that enslaved us for centuries and we are about to kick them out of Europe, but let´s fight each other and invite them to the party.

It seems Bulgaria didn't know that aggressive expansion would lead to a coalition against them. Ferdinand should have played EU4 first.

Greece, romania, serbia and the ottomans pulling the biggest "no u" in the history of balkans (1913, colorized)

As bulgarian i can tell that getting Ferdinand as our Tzar was our biggest mistake in our new history - also there are rummors that when he ordered the attack he was drunk and in the next day he tried to negotiate peace, but Serbia and Greece refused.

The Balkan states fighting each other after working together repelling the Turks is the most Balkan thing ever happened

My question was always about how Bulgaria (recently formed and never seemingly mentioned for economic prowess or riches) apparently fielded massive armies and equipment.

Bulgaria: A nation of great people that - during the first part of the 20th century - was driven to disaster by incompetent leaders.

The first national catastrophe for Bulgaria. A few things are worth mentioning in relation to the video. The whole reason why Bulgaria joined the war efforts was because of its national unification. Only a few months after it was liberated by Russia in 1878, on the congress of Berlin, Bulgaria was divided by the Great Powers into small territories, most of which were returned to the Ottomans. The reason for this act was because the powerful empires did not wish to have a large pro-Russian state on the Balkans. So they decided to sacrifice our people's freedom, to get what they want. Millions of Bulgarians remained under Ottoman rule - something that no liberated Bulgarian would allow. From this point on it was the main priority for our country - to free our brethren in Macedonia and Thrace. This is why Bulgaria was so eager to go to war and which drove all men in the country to join the army. There were whole villages left with no men in them because they were all to war with the Muslims.
And here is where it all gets twisted. The German monarch of Bulgaria - Ferdinand, who was just recently recognized as a Tsar in 1908, saw this potential and wanted to exploit it for his benefit. He started to talk about his coronation in the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople - a city that never belonged to Bulgaria in the first place. You see from the video that he decided on his own to attack our neighbors, but what you don't see is that the Bulgarian soldiers were tired, had no supplies, and adequate equipment for yet another war. The worst part was the lack of moral to the Bulgarian troops, who were confused and frustrated to fight against the Greeks and the Serbs after they've won so many victories against the Turks together.

Bulgarian Tsar - Ferdinand deserved to lose like that, but the Bulgarian people didn't. They fought bravely in the First Balkan War to liberate their brothers from 5 centuries of Muslim rule, and what they received, in the end, was a shameful loss. The lands which they liberated were returned to the Turks or were taken by other countries - which hurts the most because there were Bulgarians living there. Never again after that did Bulgaria have the same fighting spirit, as people realized that no matter how good your cause is, no matter how good you fight for it, politicians can always fail you for their own agendas.

It's odd that Bulgaria and Turkey who'd been enemies in the Two Balkan Wars became allies in 1915 when Bulgaria joined the Central Powers. That must've been akward for diplomats and soldiers on both

Bulgarian soldier: /to Turkish soldier/ Hey there, I haven't seen you since you killed several of my comrades along with innocent Bulgarian civilians in the last war, how've you been?

Turkish soldier: /shrugs/ All right I guess. I'm still working through the pain caused by my family's death caused by you in the war before the last war. How about yourself?
