When your hair starts to change colors, sometimes it's subtle or drastic depending on what is making your hair turn colors. A good hair dye job puts you in a good mood but when your colored hair or natural hair color starts to turn colors that you weren't hoping for, we have a problem on hand! Personally I embrace the natural hues that my hair gives. As subtle as the brown shades are, they are beautiful to me. Usually, as our hair grows in length, it becomes easier to see it's true colors. Below I will give you four reasons why your hair is turning colors.
Why Your Hair Is Turning Colors Reason #1 You Live In A Hard Water Area
Depending on where you may stay in the world, there may be a build up of mineral products in your water because you have hard water in your area. Mineral deposits from hard water such as sulfur, calcium, and some metals, sit on our hair. This weighs your hair down and causes your hair color to have a brassy, gritty, or dirty look! My best suggestion is to use baby water (distilled water) to wash your hair or invest in a water filter. Maybe even one that can adjust to your shower head. But, if you cant afford to make these purchases, its time to starting incorporating a deep cleansing (clarifying or chelating) shampoo into your hair regiment (if you haven't already).
When I have mineral buildup in my hair I like to use Organic Olive Oil Creamy Aloe Shampoo. It gets the job done every single time.
Why Your Hair Is Turning Colors Reason #2 Your Hair Ends Hold Color Best, If Colored
It seems like hair has a mind of its own sometimes! When you dye your hair, the ends of your hair hold and take on color better because it is most porous and has less melanin. The closer you get to your roots, the more scales and melanin you have on and in your hair strands therefore, the more resistance your hair gives when accepting hair color.
Also, with your own natural hair color, you start to loose melanin as you get closer to the ends. The ends of your hair are most porous so its takes on color better and hold on to color longer than the rest of your hair because it doesn't have as much melanin. Take a look at a woman with long, natural dark colored hair. If you look at her ends, they will look lighter in color and then get darker as you near the roots of her hair.
Why Your Hair Is Turning Colors Reason #3 Its Genetics!
It just a part of you to have hair with different colors. I've witnessed many who seemed to have glossy dark brown hair when they were a child and then as they get older, it turns into a rustic brown color. There are even African American children who are born with red tinted hair as well! When we look down the line to figuring our our racial background, its a blend of many different kinds. Your hair may grow with multiple textures or even multiple shades of brown, black, or red colors, even blonde! If your hair is healthy and well taken care of, its probably just genetics.
Why Your Hair Is Turning Colors Reason #4 Your Hair Has Sun Damage
Are you always in the sun? Relaxing on the beach? Or just always outside? No matter where you live, you are exposed to ultraviolet rays from the sun so you can be exposed to sun damage on your hair. As gentle...
