If you have one of the Macs that came with a solid-state drive BEFORE they decided to solder the drives permanently to the motherboards, you'll have one of these suckers in there. You can use an Apple SSD PCIe x4 to standard PCIe x4 adapter card to plug your drive into a PC and use Linux with apfs-fuse to copy the data off of it to something else. This shows the process or removing the drive, installing it in the adapter, and retrieving the data on a PC within a Linux command prompt.
