The dark brings out the most interesting characters, doesn’t it? For example, imagine that you’re taking a walk in the woods on a cool moonlit evening, when you happen to stumble upon a stranger there amongst the tree’s creaking limbs. He seems harmless enough …a lonesome fellow traveler… but his ensuing request to “take a walk” with him opens up a world far more disturbing than you could ever imagine.

"Windows to the Soul" written by James Colton and performed by Otis Jiry. Production and score by Jesse Cornett. This frightful tale puts us in the midst of a disturbing experiment where a researcher has possibly done the unthinkable- capturing and monitoring a human soul… But as his test subject surpasses the expected life of his initial experiment, his mind struggles to unravel the impossible truth… that he has made a terrible mistake in his choice of guinea pig.

"Cold Wind, Cold Earth" written by Preston Wu and performed by Otis Jiry. Production and score by Jesse Cornett. This tale takes us back in time to a battlefield bathed in blood. We bear witness to one man’s final chance for redemption as he is led to the gallows… Yet his remonstration reveals something other than repentance: a reality far more frightening than the treachery and murder of which he is accused.

Wow! I cannot begin to say how much I appreciate in hearing a Western story in this particular episode. It was very surreal and almost dreamy. The only issue that was off with Preston Wu's "Cold Wind, Cold Earth" was the US Army in 1877 still using "muskets" and "powder" (loose powder). Very shortly after the Civil War, the US Dept. Of Ordnance began converting all Springfield rifled muskets into a trapdoor action chambered for the .50-70 cartridge. These rifles were re-issued to infantrymen and in 1873, the government began full scale manufacture of the Model 1873 Trapdoor rifle, chambered in .45-70. This massive, hard-hitting rifle was made in 2 versions. Three-band full size infantry rifle, and 2-band "Officer's Model" carbine, issued to some cavalry units. In 1877, all US Army units would be equipped with the Model 1873 rifle, with the older 66' Springfields being given to state militia, National Guard and US Marshals. The only "loose powder" present in any regiment, especially an outfit deployed against the Plains tribes, would be amongst the reloading equipment that was only issued to company quartermaster sergeants and their staff.
