2024 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 is Right-Sized Capability #cars #pickup #ford #automotive

Is F-150 is too big? Maverick too small? The new 2024 Ford Ranger is a tiny bit larger than the outgoing model and that adds big benefits. 4-foot-wide material sheets load between the wheel wells. The cabin gets a more inviting look. It has the smoothest turbocharged 4-cylinder engine in its class. It goes down the road in a relaxed manner (due in part to its mid-sized form factor). Tom Voelk checks out a well-equipped XLT 4x4.

Tom you are one of the best automotive journalists/reviewers on youtube. Have been watching you since your NY Times days.

No gimmicks and antics like most. Just genuine and rational real world evaluations and advice that work for 99% of car buyers.

I like the mid-size truck group. I just downsized from a Ford F250. No longer needed the big towing capacity and wife didn't like driving the super duty. Looked at Maverick, Tacoma, Ranger, etc. We ended up getting a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. It tows our small boat, leather interior, AWD and V6 for about $42k. No off-roading, so Ridgeline fit the bill for smoother ride. My ego would love a Ford Raptor, but I have a Ridgeline lifestyle.

Will be buying a mid-size truck in the coming months for travel and towing a small camper. It is going to be a serious face off between Ranger and Tacoma. May the best truck win!

Nice review. Glad you choose the Ranger to review and got a mid-level trim. Like to see more of these from your channel. Might help you improve your subscriber numbers.

Thanks for the feedback on the XLT stereo sound. I know it may not be the higher end BO system with more speakers, but it's nice to know its still reasonably good. I am old school when stereo meant including a left and right channel speaker.

Tom - We know who you ARE. Doesn’t matter for a second who you aren’t. Keep the excellent objective reviews with insights coming. Thank you!!

Good review that was more focused on how it drives than many other reviews.

Recently drove cross-country back and forth and got a good view of the truck market. I took some joy in seeing, in every state along the way, all the unsold full-size pickups sitting in dealer lots. Between purchase price, fuel costs and maintenance, these unnecessarily large pickups (for most people) have become too expensive. Even this Ranger, when the term mid-sized is applied, seems rather large. There's a ready market for smaller trucks out there, at a reasonable price. The automotive management MBA-types who only live to maximize profits won't see or permit it's there.

I ❤ this truck!.can't wait for the USA version of the Tremor(the African version doesn't have the gold/orange grill accent).😢

I remember being a kid when my dad was shopping for a pickup truck. The F150 from the 80’s with super cab was a neat truck and a 4x8 sheet plywood fit between the wheels. I bet the new ranger is the same size as an ‘86 F150 super cab Lariat! I long for that F150…

I’d give up 6” of screen for push button start. $47, 000 for a mid size with cloth seats is a bold ask. Nice review as always, Tom.

Glad that smaller trucks are picking up steam. I'd still like a truck the size of my 79' Toyota pickup. Maverick is probably the best we'll get or the cartrucks like Santa Cruz.

47k for a 4 cylinder 4wd XLT ranger is outrageous. I’d go XL 4wd with a E-lockers and call it good for 39k. To me that’s still too much for an extry level 4wd little pickup. The maverick was supposed to be the dirt cheap truck but they raised the price on those nearly 6k from what they promised at launch.

We have had many Fords and GMs in our business and I wanted to buy what I felt was the best affordable trucks for one of my long-term employee and good friend. We have 2 7.3 Godzilla's and a 6.6 gas and diesel from GM...and a 03 GMC and 07 Ford 1/2 tons both with over 230k miles. So, I am familiar with large trucks. I went to Nissan and Toyota first and drove them both. The Asians have been typically more reliable over the years. I was not impressed other than the rebates and cost was excellent for what you got on the Frontier but steering sucked and although I liked the simple V6 it felt I was driving something from 20 years ago. I then went to drive the Colorado. It was in the mid 40's and felt better but not what I wanted to spend. Next went to drive the Ranger, wasn't even on my radar. This review says it all. I loved the truck; it was the most comfortable and the seats were absolutely the best. Very quiet and felt the largest and had the best hi-tech for the money. sticker was 39k for a 2wd xlt sport package and I got it for 500 under invoice...basically 2k less than sticker. There are no rebates or low financing which sucks but I was right in the same price (maybe 1k more) as the Nissan Frontier and looked and felt better all-around with more equipment. Great review. Subscribed.
