When you were talking about freshening the air in your house in winter, I thought of something my dad did.
We lived in Michigan, so definitely long, cold winters.
Once a week, every week, he would tell all of us to put on sweaters and house slippers, as he was going to turn off the heat and open the windows.
I dont remember how long the windows would be open, but I felt like it was longer than 5 minutes, but definitely not a half hour, or something like that.
When the specified time was up, he'd close all the windows and turn the heat back on.
I will say that while the windows were open and for a little while after they were closed, the house smelled so fresh.

Another tip I do on occasion in the bathroom is to rub a few drops of lavender essential oil on the inside of the toilet paper tube. Although it is temporary, it really gives off a nice scent when the TP is used.😊 I read this tip in a magazine years ago. Nice touch when you are having company

This video was totally awesome, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I have pets (2 dogs and 2 cats) and I do wash couch covers every 2 days and vacuum daily. The benefits of keeping a clean home just makes me feel healthier. I realize my blessings more when my house is clean. To be honest, sometimes I am feeling as if I don't want to do the work. But I truly know it is worth it. I love your cleaning videos!

I have a wood burning stove / heater that I can cook on top of in winter. I like to put orange peels in a pan and raise the pan on a trivet so it’s not on direct heat but just sitting at the back of the stove, gently warming. The smell is amazing and when the peels are really dry they can be crumbled into pot pouri jars or added to cooking for a hint of citrus flavour. Mandarins, limes and lemons work well too but orange is my favourite.

As someone with no sense of smell, I really appreciate this, I’m always paranoid bc IDK!

Some really great tips. Recently, I’ve discovered that cheap fragrance plugins and candles make me sick, so I’m looking forward to trying a Simmer pot.

Febreeze makes an unscented version that I really like. It removes the stink without adding a headache from strong scents.

Thanks for the opening the windows suggestion.
I've always been wary of opening the windows and letting the heat out, but you're right and I should get in to the habit of doing that.

growing up my mother always left the kitchen window over the sink cracked about 1/4 inch - a little more when cooking. Was never cold but never had the cooking oders.

Hi Mabel! I'm a little obsessed with your videos. I've never been much of a cleaner but feel encouraged by all your tips!

Hi Mabel — glad your papa knows scented candles are incredibly dangerous to dogs/cats health, birds too! 🙏

I use a tiny crockpot for the apple, orange mix. Safer

this helped me remember about pine/spruce needle tea. cuz, yknow, teas in general are a sort of pot pourri/pot simmer, and especially spruce needle tea cause you have to boil it for a few minutes and it gives off loads of terpenes (one of many kinds of smell chemicals)

When cleaning your sink/disposal - do not forget to clean the rubber pads of the disposal with a sponge both the top and the bottom side. The bottom side of the rubber flaps are a great source of smells, because even with a cleaning pod they never actually get touched and will build up grease and grime. Take your scrub daddy and go to town on both sides.

Hi, Mabel from Sassy, Kody, Kiki, Angel, Charlie, Lizzie and Gretchen ❤🐾
With this many furkids in the house, cleaning and keeping the house NOT smelling like a kennel is a full time job!
Washing their beds and blankets weekly, brushing them, bathing them, brushing their teeth all help. We also have absorbent rugs at entry doors for dirty little feet. Despite having hard surface floors only, it's absolutely necessary to stick vac at least once daily. Loved the tips, Brandon, thanks; can you recommend an air purifier brand?

When growing up, I lived in a third floor walk up in Chicago. I remember my mom opening all the windows, especially in the winter. We only had a natural gas space heater for the apartment and she said it was good to get fresh air in the house. I continue to follow her advice today (i am 76). Once a week I bring fresh air into my house.
Loved all the suggestions, except for the wall cleaning. I don't disagree, but my walls are filled with artwork, mirrors, ... lot of work to take down. But, I guess I will experiment with my walk in closet.
Thanks for all your suggestions.
