The 991.2 generation Porsche 911 GT3 is one of my favorite manual sports cars, with a glorious 4.0L naturally aspirated flat six that revs to 9000 rpm. My friend Steven recently bought a very nicely optioned Miami Blue GT3, so we take it for a drive and chat/argue about what it has been like to own!

Huge respect to Steven’s humility in caveating it could be driver ability while still providing valuable feedback. No car is perfect regardless of prestige!

I own a 991.2 gt3 manual. Had an alignment and great on track. Better driver took me out and was stunned what it could do. Does need learning, but best car i have owned and will keep as long as i am able.

Buyer’s remorse haha I’ve been there.

I feel like Steven would like the 992 like everyone has mentioned but it’s also hard when owning something knowing it didn’t have all the options.

I feel like he should get the 600LT but the GT3 991.2 manual is a modern classic in my opinion!

Anyone (this side of a racecar driver) who feels a GT3 is lacking in driving dynamics (turn-in, too much body roll etc) on the street, makes no sense to me.

mod the car … Dundon headers and intake -35lbs and 40lbs torque mid range, Antigravity lithium battery -35lbs … BBS wheels -30lbs unsprung weight … lower 10mm, corner balance and negative camber … changes GT3 dramatically

It sounds so organic and emotional at gear changes...

Luv a flat six! having an 02, 3.2 liter, 6 speed, 986 Porsche Boxster S with a Fabspeed exhaust, CAI, catless headers, IPD/Plenum, Numeric shifter etc...

My aim is the sound of "Spec racing Boxsters" too raw/visceral. Luv it!

The noise that engine makes at high rpms is epic

991.2 gt3 is the best Gt3 ever made, much more beautiful and proportionate than 992 gt3 and the performance is very similar.

"I got tired of working for it." That sums it up.  Mine is PDK and, for me, too scary to drive at 8 tenths on a public road. This is a violent, frantic, precision scalpel. With a manual - everything happening super-quickly in that last 3000 rpm - I can't imagine. Sure, there's the auto blip, other nannies, but still. In the 90s I tracked 8k miles in my modified 993 turbo and became somewhat comfortable with a few track techniques that I'd never use on a public road. Lift throttle, double apex was my nirvana. Old 911s, new 911s....I think the story stays the same. There are easier cars to drive quickly for the novice/intermediate. A great driver needs nothing more than a GT3. I'm not great.

Love the PDK..before I got my R8 in 2014 I almost bought the 2010 911 with PDK.. I had lost my ability to drive stick shift due to a neurological condition and the pdk restored my enthusiasm for cars
. Problem was I love the R8 so I had to wait a few years for Audi to get their stuff together and put in a dual clutch transmission for 2014 albeit THe R8 DCT is not even close to the PDK. But hey I still have that R8

Love this car! 991 Interior is more analog with lower dashboard height than 992, but 992 GT3’s double wishbone front suspension has ruined me ……steering is so much sharper with better feel and individual throttle bodies give the most crisp throttle response. I think your friend needs to try a 992 version as that car solves his complaints. Being a McLaren fanboy as well I actually understand what he’s talking about

Steven I think you need a PDK not a manual, that will allow you to get more out of the car?

I think you need to try trail braking, it’s a rear engine car and has more weight is on the rear. It will understeer if you don’t manage the weight transfer. You are comparing it to a mid engine car.

Great video Eddie you're a great presenter especially at the beginning for a moment it felt like I was watching an autoweek host or perhaps a car and driver video. It'd be great to get an update video to see later down the line to see if Steven still feels the same about the car maybe after a few mods or still doesn't like it.

Yeah I would have to disagree.. it's most likely his driving style and confidence that is holding him back from exploring the car.. Truly the 991.2 GT3 is a good mix of modern style but having some old school feel with the Manual.

Hey Eddie, to your comment at 17:30, the button “sport” doesn’t change any other parameters than simply the rev matching. That’s why, now they changed the name from “sport” to “autoblip”.

Respectfully, if the car doesn’t give you the fiz then sell it so it gets to somebody who wants it. And continue your search.

I love the fact they were designed around the beetle. Classic stuff. My 997.2 C2S PDK looks even more like an old classic sports car and that’s what I love. No spoilers and not too race car like. Each to their own I guess. I would love a GT3 as well though 😊

base headlights at classic single not ugly double LED … if lighter weight carbon rotors and lighter carbon buckets the Xenon headlights are -17lbs lighter !!!! brilliant spec as not many “night” track days lol

If you buy a .1 GT3 be fully prepared to have to replace the motor. If the 10 year warranty had expired, take it directly to Deman and get the 4.5L.
